Far Cry 6 will mark the latest in Ubisoft's long-running open-world game series about overthrowing evil authority figures. The full trophy list for Far Cry 6 is now revealed, and while several of the trophies look fun, a couple are headscratchers.

One of these is Recrooster, which carges Far Cry 6 players to collect all roosters. This seems like a strange task, since roosters are not the first item players would think of as collectibles in a Far Cry game, unless they're for foood. But it turns out they are for something else entirely: a mini-game that will make many heads spin.

Far Cry 6 features a cockfighting mini-game. That the inhumane and often illegal sport makes an appearance is not entirely surprising, since Far Cry titles don't tend to take place in places where laws mean all that much. What is surprising is the fact that players don't just purchase roosters to compete in a game of chance, they actually take control of their chosen rooster to do battle in the mini-game itself. This seems to be a mini-game that will crop up frequently in across the game although whether or not players can face Far Cry 6's intimidating villain in a match is unknown, and unlikely.

The mini-game itself is essentially a 2.5D fighting game with very basic controls. Players have two attacks, one a close range combo and one a long-range distance closer. The rooster can also dodge in one of four directions to avoid enemy attacks. After building up a special meeter, roosters can perform a special attack that inflicts a lot of damgae. Benchmark tests show that PCs may have trouble running Far Cry 6, but the fighting itself looks fairly smooth. Fights are best-of-three rounds with neither rooster dying.

There are many different roosters to choose from, but as the Recrooster achievement suggests, they need to be collected throughout the game. How to do this varies from rooster to rooster, but whether or not their stats and attack/defense options differ as well is currently unknown. Some are only available through Ubisoft Connect awards, but at least they don't require buying the new expensive Far Cry 6 watch.

There are a lot of questions to be answered about this mode, not the least of which is what sort of discussion it will incite. And of course the question of whether supernatural roosters will become available with the Stranger Things DLC when it lands.

Far Cry 6 releases October 7 for Luna, PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
