Far Cry 6 seems to be an ambitious new entry in the long-running franchise that is already making headlines with its political nature. Far Cry games usually dip their toes into controversial and debatable subjects, and Far Cry 6 seems to be embracing the series tradition. While Far Cry 6 seems more narratively focused than some of the past entries, thanks to the addition of a fully voiced protagonist, it will be retaining the over-the-top bombastic combat that makes Far Cry so fun in the first place.

It's always been enjoyable causing mayhem in Far Cry games, especially in co-op, which has been part of the franchise in one form or another since Far Cry 3. Far Cry 5 allows players to play the whole game in co-op with their friends, and many are now curious to know whether Far Cry 6 would retain the co-op elements of its immediate predecessor.

Is Far Cry 6 Co-Op? Answered

Fortunately, Far Cry 6 will feature the co-op experience from Far Cry 5. Ubisoft confirmed the news, alongside other Far Cry 6  gameplay and story details in a recent Reddit AMA.  Far Cry 6's co-op will work similarly to the tethering system from Far Cry 5, making the entire campaign fully playable in the co-op. Game director Alex Letendre explained that Far Cry 6's co-op mode is "simple and easy to play with friends," and that they will have more to show soon.

Far Cry 5's drop-in and drop-out co-op system was restricted to friends, meaning that players could not randomly pair up with a stranger. Far Cry 6 seems like it won't be addressing this issue and keep co-op restricted to one's friends list. Although not confirmed, Far Cry 6 could also be retaining the co-op progression system from Far Cry 5. As many would recall, the invited player could only carry over the cash, guns, and perks earned in the co-op and not the mission progression.

Far Cry 5 players who enjoyed the co-op should have a lot to look forward to in Far Cry 6. The tropical, politically intertwined open-world of Yara would provide players a lot of opportunities to cause mayhem. Fan-favorite traversal tools like the winged suit and grappling hook will be returning alongside the addition of the new Fuego backpack that should make traversal a lot more fun in co-op.

Far Cry 6 also has the largest arsenal of weapons in any Far Cry game, with its new "resolver" system allowing players to craft unique and powerful weapons from mundane objects. With such a vast and varied selection of weapons and a mix of urban and rural locales to try them out, Far Cry 6 should be a blast to play through in co-op.

Far Cry 6 launches October 7, on Amazon Luna, PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
