The map editor in Far Cry games has become a solidified feature within the series that fans have always used to create unique maps and locations. In addition, players were given agency to play around with NPC's, wildlife, and almost anything offered through the game. The custom map editor proved to be an exciting feature for many players who could then share their creations among friends or with the broader online community. Many fans have been looking forward to Far Cry 6's Arcade Mode and the new additions of its map editor.

Unfortunately, players will likely be disappointed to hear that the fan-favorite feature won't be returning in Far Cry 6. The news was revealed through a Reddit post where several game creative leads answered a few fan questions, confirming that the Arcade Mode won't be returning.

Moreover, it was also confirmed that the Arcade Mode wouldn't be returning in future updates either. Game Director Alexandre Letendre stated, "Removing this mode from our plan was a difficult decision, but allowed us to focus our efforts on the main campaign, transporting players into the heart of a modern-day guerrilla revolution." While the news may be disappointing, it does also mean that Far Cry 6 could be delving into a focused story, delivering a potentially more immersive experience that players could enjoy. After all, a major complaint from Far Cry 5 was that it was repetitive and not focused.

Despite the likelihood of a more focused narrative, it's going to be a feature that fans of the series will miss, especially since fans used Arcade Mode as a means to express themselves creatively. For instance, Far Cry 5's Arcade Mode saw fans creating popular maps from Call of Duty and Counter-Strike, as well as the Baker Family House from Resident Evil 7. Regardless, if the removal of the Arcade Mode means that players could be getting a more interesting story, then it could be worth it.

Far Cry 6's open world map was revealed as well, and it's safe to say that it fits Ubisoft's description of the map being "the largest Far Cry playground to date." While it's great that players could potentially be exploring a lived-in, rich world, it's a shame that players won't be able to capitalize on the assets of the game through a map editor. However, Far Cry 6 will see grappling hooks and wingsuits make their return, which should make traversing the gargantuan-sized map much more exciting.

With the Arcade Mode isn't coming back, it's been confirmed that players will have more to do in Far Cry 6 once the main story has been completed. Lead Game Designer David Grivel stated that there'd be "something else" awaiting players for the end game content. It should be noted that nothing has been revealed about what fans should expect, but it's good to know that something will keep players busy after the campaign is done.

Far Cry 6 launches October 7 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
