One of the highlights of Far Cry 5's demo at E3 2017 was the introduction of several "Guns for Hire," NPC allies that support the player in unique ways. Three allies were available then, but the number has now ballooned up to nine. Today Ubisoft released new info on all nine of Far Cry 5's Guns for Hire, replete with individual trailers and short profiles.

The nine different Far Cry 5 allies are split into three different subsections: Resistance, Guns for Hire, and Fangs for Hire. The difference between Resistance and Guns for Hire isn't particularly clear, but the three Fangs for Hire are all animal companions. Just going off of their names, Guns for Hire sound like mercenaries that have to be paid whereas Resistance may just join you as requested.

Here are Far Cry 5's nine AI allies, broken into their respective groupings:

Guns for Hire

  • Nick Rye - "The King of the Skies" - Pilot
  • Grace Armstrong - "The Sharp-Shooting Hero" - Sniper

Resistance

  • Hurk Drubman Jr. - "Just Dangerously Stupid" - RPG
  • Jess Black - "The Master Huntress" - Hunter
  • Adelaide Drubman - "The Chopper Queen" - Pilot
  • Sharky Boshaw - "The Pyrotechnics Phenom" - Pyromaniac

Fangs for Hire

  • Boomer - "The Good Boy - Scout
  • Peaches
  • Cheeseburger

These nine seem to be all of the allies planned for Far Cry 5 at launch, but who knows what surprises may be in store. Or what Ubisoft has planned for post-launch content.

With the introduction of the Guns for Hire, players should be able to draw some conclusions regarding the overall tone of Far Cry 5. A game featuring an RPG-wielding dude named Hurk that can "barely zip his own fly" isn't taking itself very seriously. The fact you can ally with a bear named Cheeseburger is probably a more straightforward example of the game's lighter approach.

Complementing the NPC Guns for Hire allies is Far Cry 5's cooperative Friends for Hire system. Players will be able to invite a friend to play cooperatively in Far Cry 5, treating them like just another hired ally. Since the Guns for Hire are such an important part of the game, however, players will be able to play with both a Friend for Hire cooperative player and a Gun for Hire NPC at the same time.

Far Cry 5 releases March 27 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
