Far Cry 5's Hope County, Montana is a weird place. When the locals aren't joining cults or participating in fried bull testicle festivals, they can be found hunting down extraterrestrial artifacts or putting together morbid haunted house attractions. However, there may be a reason why the people in Hope County are so strange, and it may be tied to an otherworldly evil being known as Pennywise the Dancing Clown or simply "It."

As it turns out, there are at least two direct references to Stephen King's It novel hidden in Far Cry 5, with the possibility of more that have yet to be discovered. To find the first one, players need to head east from the crop circle in John's region and they will come across a sewer pipe with a red balloon floating in front of it. Players can enter the sewer without having to worry about being eaten alive by any killer clowns, but it is still a creepy sight.

The second Stephen King's It easter egg we've found in Far Cry 5 is a bit more substantial. To find it, players need to visit O'Hara's Haunted House, which can be found in Faith's region, just northwest of Dead Man's River. They then need to complete the prepper stash mission here by climbing into the second floor of the house, turning the power on, entering the barn, and walking through the haunted house attraction full of jump scares.

At the end of the haunted house, players will find another red balloon, along with an interesting note sitting on the chair. The note is titled "Clown thoughts" and it reads:

"you have the fear of god you need the of THE DEVIL you need to FEAR IT

you take a young person and take their body and mind

you use their empty corpses to find more young people whose bodies you can steal no no NO no no

you will wish your mind was scooped out of your body because when IT is through with your bodies YOU WON'T WANT THEM ANYMORE."

In case the It reference wasn't clear enough, this note has the word "IT" capitalized in two different spots. The content of the note could also be a reference to the way It feeds on people in the novel with its "deadlights," though it could just as easily be a reference to how the Eden's Gate cult brainwashes people.

Regardless, it will be interesting to see if there's more to this It easter egg in Far Cry 5. Fans should keep an eye out for more red balloons as they explore the creepy land of Hope County, Montana, which seems to be filled with haunted houses, alien abductions, and man-eating clowns.

Far Cry 5 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
