About a couple of weeks ago, Ubisoft put out a "Guns for Hire" breakdown to promote its forthcoming first-person shooter Far Cry 5, with the information giving fans a better idea of the game's nine NPC allies capable of being recruited. Now, the publisher and developer have put out a fresh video that focuses solely on the title's dog companion, Boomer, with Ubisoft developers explaining the origins behind the trusty pup and his abilities in the game.

As seen in the video below courtesy of IGN, Far Cry 5's Boomer was inspired by the developers' initial investigation of Montana as the game's prime location, with the researchers noticing that almost everyone there has a dog. Taking this observation with them, Ubisoft figured that there would be no better way to incorporate this bit of realism to the game than to add the Australian Shepherd and Blue Heeler hybrid as a loyal companion.

Much like Fallout 4's Dogmeat, Far Cry 5's Boomer will be able to explore the landscape and fetch important items for players to use in their quest to defeat the game's deranged cultist baddies and restore peace to Fall's End. What's more is that Boomer also is able to hold his own in battle against enemies, while also being able to "sniff" them out, with nearby foes being detected and marked with their outlines shown in the game world.

All things considered, Boomer appears to be the best choice as a companion for Far Cry 5 fans who are looking to add a stealthy strategic element to their tool belts, as the canine will be able to assist in executing more scenarios without the main character being seen. Plus, with the ability for players to actually pet the cute little pup during gameplay, it stands to reason that many dog-lovers will pick Boomer over the other recruits for teammates in the field.

Far Cry 5 is set to launch on March 27, 2018 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
