After a brief delay, Far Cry 5 is almost upon us and fans can't wait to meet Joseph Seed and the other members of Edens Gate in the games insane version of rural Montana. Of course, with hype comes questions, like how long the game actually is and if Creative Director Dan Hay is to be believed gamers should strap in for a long ride.

In an interview with Gamespot today, Hay discussed the time required to finish the Far Cry 5 campaign, saying that "a good player will go through it in 25 hours" but of course this is only the start. "What we're seeing is people going into the world and just spending four or five hours fishing or hunting, or just doing stuff that we hadn't really prepared for, " Hay continued, "So it really depends on how you play".

Of course, none of this comes as a huge surprise. The Far Cry series, as well as others under Ubisoft's banner like Assassins Creed and Watch Dogs, are known for their expansive open worlds, full of alternate activities designed to get players attention. Assuming those who pick up the game want to look further than the games interesting and controversial story and fully explore Hope County, it's easy to see how a 20-25 hour campaign can be stretched out.

Hay also briefly discussed Far Cry 5's map-editor that will allow players to create new and interesting competitive game-types. Hay said he thought it "would be super cool" when asked if the new tools could handle the creation of a game type similar to PUBG or Fortnight, "Obviously we are growing the tools with every iteration, and this time it was a big, big growth rate for us." It seems as though Ubisoft want to make sure Far Cry 5 has a long life, looking beyond the crazy DLC and post-launch content the developer has planned.

It's easy to argue that the Far Cry series has found itself in a bit of a slump as of late. With many fans finding Far Cry 4 too similar to its predecessor and Far Cry: Primal failing to blow fans away, Ubisoft will be looking to its latest game to re-invigorate the franchise. Luckily, everything shown so far has given fans reasons to be excited. Not only does Joseph Seed look to be standout in a series of full of excellent villains, ideas of separatism and extremism explored through cartoonishly fun and violent world of Far Cry is sure to be something unique.

Far Cry 5 releases March 27, 2018 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
