Officially unveiled on April Fools’ Day of all days, Ubisoft’s Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is exactly as insane and over-the-top as advertised. It’s a standalone downloadable game for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 that takes players on an action adventure similar to Far Cry 3 but themed as an ’80s sci-fi action movie, laughable one-liners and all.
Starring as the game’s cybernetic protagonist is none other than ’80s action star Michael Biehn and for an idea of what went down when he came in to record his lines, Ubisoft has a funny behind-the-scenes look and interview between Biehn and Creative Director Dean Evans.
While Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon removes the typical red-colored blood and gory details of the core game, it’s still very much adult in its language – as evidenced in the video up top. There’s also that “high impact sex scene” as revealed by the Australian Ratings Classification Board.
The year is 2007. It is the future. Earth has been ravaged by a nuclear war and new paths for peace must be found. A U.S. cyborg army may have found a solution: a powerful bioweapon on a distant island. A Mark IV Cyber Commando, Sergeant Rex Power Colt has been sent over to gather information and figure out what the hell is going on.
Biehn is the perfect choice not only for his resume of work and his voice, but for his personality, as evidenced from the video above and the first official Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon trailer. We already want more Sergeant Rex Power Colt.
As part of the marketing campaign for Blood Dragon, Ubisoft enlisted YouTube action stars Corridor Digital to put together a live-action short, starring another Cyber Commando, Commander Bolt Lightning. Check out the very impressive visuals and fight choreography below and watch the behind-the-scenes making of video here.
Five new screenshots have also been released, offering a glimpse into the Omega cyborg soldiers, environments, weapons and and the titular blood dragons. For more, check out the first six Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon screenshots and leaked gameplay video.
Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon will be available on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 from May 1, 2013.
