It's well-known that Nintendo isn't too fond of fan games, as seen with a recent DMCA takedown that removed hundreds of Nintendo fan games from the web. But sometimes, fans just want to remember their favorite classic video games by reimagining how they might look today, and now, one fan has recreated a level from Wario Land 4 from the ground up in Unity, and it is impressive, to say the least.

Over the years, Nintendo has created a myriad of classic video games to be enjoyed by both avid and casual gamers alike, spanning across a multitude of consoles and handheld systems over generations. With so many age-old IPs and series, it's not hard to imagine that the Japanese video game company would want to capitalize on nostalgia with remakes and remasters of older games, but sometimes, fans take matters into their own hands.

Over on Twitter, 3D artist and indie game developer MikMik posted a brief clip of their recreation of the Palm Tree Paradise level from the 2001 Game Boy Advance game Wario Land 4. According to MikMik, the Unity recreation was made over the course of just a few days as an environmental project. Although this isn't playable, the 3D artist's work breaths new, colorful, and stylized life into the classic GBA game.

Fans can see that MikMik paid incredibly close attention to detail in the remake, complete with swaying palm trees, soaring seagulls, a glistening ocean, and a neat idle animation for Wario as well. Just like in Wario Land 4, the 3D even artist kept Wario's shoes purple, despite him appearing with green shoes in many other games. MikMik mentioned that while playing through all of the Wario Land games, they knew that they had to remake the Palm Tree Paradise level in HD as soon as they came across it. The level recreation is incredibly stylized, almost reminiscent of a more plastic art style, like the one seen in the Switch remake of The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening.

It's currently unknown as to whether MikMik intends on making this incredible Wario Land 4 level playable. Recently, an equally impressive fan-made 2D Metroid Prime demo was released online after years of development, and for whatever reason, the big N has not gotten around to taking it down quite yet, so maybe there is hope out there for some Nintendo fan games after all.

This year marks nearly 30 years since Wario made his first appearance in Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins on the Game Boy back in 1992. While it has been some time since the last Wario Land and even WarioWare games, some fans are holding out hope to see Mario's raunchy counterpart make a comeback sometime soon.
