Anticipation has been building for the next Mario game coming to the Wii, aptly named New Super Mario Bros. Wii. With the recent news that the game will reach levels of difficulty similar to the original Contra in multiplayer, the internet has been abuzz. Amidst this news though, some cool info has seemingly flown under the radar. Over at VGChartz, scans from a recent magazine have surfaced, shedding light on some new details from the game.

For those of you who played Super Mario World on the SNES, you may recognize the familiar visages of Bowser's seven children: The Koopalings. That's right. Now you'll be able to relive all your fond memories of stomping your way through some of gaming's most visually memorable mini-bosses. That makes this the first game to feature both The Koopalings and Bowser Jr. which begs the question: Are they even related?

As for the gameplay surrounding Bowser's children, nothing has been revealed yet, but if the promise of multiplayer becoming hectic and maddeningly difficult is true, these fights will definitely be something to look forward to.

On top of the return of The Koopalings, Nintendo is also bringing back something that fans of Super Mario 3 will recognize: airship levels. Remember the hours you spent trying to make it to the end of the ship while dodging bullet bills shooting in all directions? Well this time, it's not going to be any easier. With four players on screen, all frantically dodging hazards, these levels are sure to stick with you if only due to the sheer frustration.

As details are slowly leaked to the public for New Super Mario Bros. Wii, it seems as if Nintendo is working on making the "New Super Mario Bros" series into true successors to the Mario games of the past that we all loved. What piece of nostalgia from Mario past would you most like to see brought back?

You can expect New Super Mario Bros. Wii to hit shelves on November 15, 2009.
