A Fallout fan has charmed players with a creative project, distributing Fallout Vault Boy bobbleheads throughout the Phoenix, Arizona area. The fan documented their adventure on YouTube, revealing their process as they placed the bobbleheads one-by-one, affording viewers a chance to find and collect the figures.

The Vault Boy bobblehead appears in Bethesda Game Studios’ Fallout game series, appearing in Fallout 3, 4, and 76. The Fallout bobbleheads can be collected and stored by players, and affect gameplay, increasing stats or granting perks dependent on the type of bobblehead collected. As a character, Vault Boy has become a gaming icon, and is a mascot for the Fallout franchise.

The “Bobblegeddon” project is the work of mafnxxx, who describes it as an “IRL Easter Egg Hunt.” Photos of the bobbleheads were posted across Imgur, Reddit, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. Mafnxxx had previously done similar drops in San Diego and Los Angeles, but the effort is no walk in the park. Each of the bobbleheads are 3D printed, then painted and assembled by hand.

On his YouTube channel ‘That Guy With A Game Boy Camera’, mafnxxx documented his journey to Phoenix, toting the box of custom-made bobbleheads in a cardboard box, whilst wearing a Vault Boy mask. Among the places he visits is the bingo hall at the Harrah's Ak-Chin Casino, the McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park, and the Phoenix Point of Pride Mystery Castle. At each location, mafnxxx placed a bobblehead with a corresponding stat or perk related to the area. For example, the medical bobblehead was placed outside the Louisa Kellam Center for Women's Health.

According to Reddit users who found the bobbleheads, a number of the Vault Boy figures were left untouched after being discovered, and remained in the exact locations mafnxxx had placed them in. Not all the bobbleheads were as lucky, though. Some photos posted to Instagram showed figures with missing pieces. Whatever happens to them, mafnxxx has confirmed that the figures are there for the taking, and that anyone who finds one may keep it.

Those hoping to still find a bobblehead might be out of luck. The drop took place on the 29th and 30th of December 2021. Anyone hoping to grab one of mafnxxx’s figures would be wise to check social media first to see what is left to claim. Indeed, the Mystery Castle bobblehead was quickly snapped up by a Fallout fan and his children, who said the find “absolutely made our day.” For anyone who couldn’t grab one in time, there might be another chance in the future. Mafnxxx hasn’t confirmed any plans to do another bobblehead drop just yet, but the Phoenix drop wasn’t his first, and hopefully won't be his last.

Fallout 76, the latest in the series, is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
