The next Fallout has just been announced, but it's won't be a game. Thursday morning, Amazon Studios announced that it's developing a licensed television show based on the Fallout RPG game franchise from Bethesda Studios. The series will reportedly be produced by the pair of creators responsible for the HBO television show Westworld, Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan. No release window has been revealed for the Fallout TV show, nor whether a target has been set for production to begin.

Very little information about the Fallout TV show is yet available, but it is confirmed that Bethesda Studios will be involved with the show's production. Fallout executive producer and game director Todd Howard even offered his thoughts to Variety on the topic.  Howard says that Bethesda has talked with Joy and Nolan about the project for years and that he sees them as "the ones to do [Fallout] right."

Joy and Nolan also issued a prepared statement regarding the announcement. They describe Fallout as an "insanely imaginative story" and "one of the greatest game series of all time." They go on to say that they're looking forward to partnering with Howard and the rest of the "brilliant lunatics" at Bethesda to bring this "massive, subversive, and darkly funny universe to life."

Fallout will officially be produced by Joy and Nolan's production company, Kilter Films. Kilter Films is best known for the television show Person of Interest, as well as HBO's Westworld series. Two other projects are currently in production named Reminiscence, a sci-fi romance film set for 2021, and another sci-fi TV show named The Peripheral.

Joy and Loan are involved in varying capacities with each of Kilter Films' productions. For example, they both co-write in addition to executive produce Westworld. Joy is also directing Reminiscence. Exactly what capacity they'll be involved in Fallout's production isn't clear, outside of being producers. It's possible, if not likely, that they won't be writing or directing the television show.

Suffice to say, a lot is left to be revealed about the newly announced Fallout show. The news as it stands is that a Fallout show is in production, it's being produced by the creators of the HBO Westworld show, Bethesda is directly involved, it'll retain that subversive, darkly funny tone that Fallout fans are going to want, and Amazon is the company behind it.

The Fallout TV show is currently in development.
