Although it's almost 12 years old now, Fallout: New Vegas is still talked about among the community. While Fallout 5 rumors have been doing the rounds, the 2010 entry in the long-running RPG series is considered an excellent installment, with many seeing the Obsidian Entertainment game as almost a return to form, particularly when it comes to the writing. On top of that, fans are still creating mods for the game, and there have been a few released recently that really ramp up the difficulty.

As spotted by TheGamer, user AVeryUncreativeUsername has uploaded a number of add-ons for Fallout: New Vegas for those players who have a hankering for a more challenging experience. Seemingly created to make the vanilla game's hardcore mode look like a walk in the park, these mods are not for the faint of heart. One example is simply called "Never Level Up," and is exactly that. Players using this mod won't be able to increase their level, no matter how much they progress.

AVeryUncreativeUsername has also created mods that disable quest markers and quest messages, and there's even one that disables the HUD messages for when challenges are updated. If that wasn't enough, players can download "One Hit Death," which gives the Courier just one HP, meaning that any damage taken at any point will result in immediate death. While Fallout: New Vegas was the first installment to introduce a hardcore mode, it seems as though AVeryUncreativeUsername's series of challenging mods are suited to the more masochistic of Fallout fans.

There are a ton of Fallout: New Vegas mods that can alter the game significantly. Some improve the textures or overall visuals, some overhaul the characters, while others add new weapons. But then there are mods, like what AVeryUncreativeUsername created, that alter the experience and, in this case, make the trek across the Mojave Desert that much more perilous. Combined, all these add-ons have the potential to create one of the most difficult playthroughs for anyone brave enough to install them.

Fallout: New Vegas is considered the best in the series by many players. An S-tier entry, it features a host of memorable characters, a finely crafted world to explore, and some of the most interesting writing that's been featured in a Fallout game. The fact that the game is still talked about to this day and that people are still putting out new mods for it shows just how much of a beloved entry it is. It remains to be seen whether the next game will be able to topple it.

Fallout: New Vegas is available now for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
