For those like to combine open-world gaming with the stock exchange, a recent mod for Fallout: New Vegas allows for some wheeling and dealing, with the ability to purchase stocks in several companies across the title's vast world. Originally intended as an expansion for Fallout 3, Obsidian Entertainment's 2010 release has gone on to become one of the most beloved entries in the series, known for its darkly satirical edge and fantastic writing. Given the praise, it's not surprising that fans are still playing it to this day.

The important choices players can make means that Fallout: New Vegas can be quite stressful as the Courier navigates the Mojave wasteland in search of the man who attempted to kill them, while also battling against violent post-apocalyptic tribes. What helps keep the game in the spotlight, aside from its popularity among fans, is the fact that people are still putting out mods for the near 13-year-old RPG. While some modifications are great for visual upgrades, bug fixes, or adding new missions, there are those that may appeal to players who like the gamble of trading in stocks.

Nexus Mods user hman101 has uploaded a revamped version of their previous mod, "The Mojave Stock Exchange," which allows Fallout: New Vegas fans to do what the name suggests. The mod makes it possible to purchase stocks in a number of companies across the desert, including RobCo Industries, NCR War Bonds, The Van Graffs, and more. Players can keep track of their stocks using the PipBoy or brokerage terminals, with prices updating on a daily basis. Said prices can fall or rise, influenced by completing quests and the deaths of important NPCs, which makes trading a bit of a gamble.

When it comes to money, Fallout is famous for its bottle caps system, in which the metal caps of empty soda bottles have become the standard currency in this universe. Caps are usually earned by finishing missions, selling items, or by simply finding them while sneaking about, but hman101's mod provides an alternative way of earning that could appeal to fans of big city living.

Unfortunately, there's still no word on whether a follow-up to the 2010 game will ever see the light of day. Obsidian's CEO is interested in making another Fallout game, but with the developer only ever having made one entry and Bethesda confirming Fallout 5 last year, there's no telling whether fans will get to experience another New Vegas.

Fallout: New Vegas is available now for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
