For those who like their post-apocalyptic gameplay to border on the impossible, a new mod for Fallout: New Vegas could be the answer, as it essentially kills the player in an explosive fashion if they take a single hit. Although the game didn't do well at launch due to technical issues, Obsidian's darkly comical release has become a cult classic in gaming, especially in the RPG genre. Turning 13 years old in the latter part of 2023, many fans still fondly think of New Vegas as the best entry in the whole Fallout series.

While there's been no word on a follow-up, fans are still hoping for a Fallout: New Vegas 2, and the director of the 2010 installment has said the studio would be interested in returning to the franchise. However, nothing has really come of it since and the developer has moved on over the years, releasing a number of other titles far removed from the Fallout name. That said, New Vegas, despite its age, still has a dedicated following and this can be seen in the modding community that is consistently putting out custom content.

There's now a new mod for those Fallout: New Vegas fans after a more sadistic experience. Nexus Mods user Cahigal55 has created what they simply title as "One Hit KO For Fallout New Vegas," which, as the name implies, makes the game that extra bit harder by killing the player if they take damage. But it doesn't just kill the Courier in a neat way. Instead, the player will explode "in a nuclear fashion." There are some stipulations to the mod, though. For instance, according to the description, the game must be in hardcore more and on the hardest difficulty. Also, no companions are allowed and the game can only be completed through the Legion faction.

Anyone brave enough to take on this challenge will surely have a grueling time. Fallout: New Vegas is a stressful game as it is, especially when players opt for the aforementioned hardcore mode in which the Courier must eat, drink, and sleep, and healing items like food do not heal immediately and instead work over a short period of time.

As a top tier Fallout game, New Vegas sticks out among the more modern takes on the series, with praise aimed at its writing and satirical humor. No doubt many would be interested in seeing a sequel to Obsidian's installment, but for now at least, there are plenty of mods to keep fans entertained.

Fallout: New Vegas is available now for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
