Though the main quest line ending to Fallout: New Vegas brought the game to a swift but satisfying conclusion, there are still some questions left unanswered, like why the game’s main character, known only as The Courier, ended up with the task of delivering the Platinum Chip. To help clear that nagging issue up, Bethesda and Obsidian Entertainment have released what might be the last piece of DLC for New Vegas, titled Lonesome Road.
We’ve told you a little bit about Lonesome Road, and the two item-centric DLC packs that will be releasing some time after it, but it’s time to get the best look without actually playing through the storyline — it’s time for a trailer. Narrated by the elusive Courier Six, or Ulysses, the man who refused the Platinum Chip, Lonesome Road’s trailer reminds gamers that this is the DLC quest to pick up.
Some of what is shown in the trailer, from the desolate wastelands of the Divide to the extremely powerful weapons, are classic Fallout: New Vegas, but that’s not why gamers should be picking up Lonesome Road. This is finally a chance for some resolution to the story of The Courier. We’ve seen him partake in an Ocean’s Eleven-esque robbery and defend a National Park, but we have yet to truly know his backstory.
Yes, the first going with Fallout: New Vegas wasn’t easy, but those gamers who held on despite all of the early bugs and game freezes found a worthy successor to Fallout 3. And thankfully, Bethesda’s tradition of putting out compelling, standalone DLC continued.
Part of what drove the narrative of New Vegas forward was understanding the events that brought The Courier to lose the Platinum Chip, but clearly it’s not just about how he lost it but how he came by it. All of those answers will be revealed in what we hope is the most satisfying piece of New Vegas DLC yet.
Are you ready to head back out to the Mojave Wasteland for Lonesome Road? How would you like to see this Courier Six storyline unfold?
Fallout: New Vegas ‘Lonesome Road’ releases September 20, 2011 for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.
