The final announced DLC quest for Fallout: New Vegas, the one that gamers have been waiting for since completing the game’s main storyline, has finally been given a release date. Lonesome Road introduces players to the character of Ulysses, also known as Courier Six, also known as the man responsible for your current predicament in New Vegas.

Lonesome Road will set you back a comparatively small chunk of change — 800 MS Points or $9.99 — and will be releasing on all three platforms on September 20th. It’s the quest New Vegas fans have been waiting for, and we are glad Bethesda is finally bringing it to us.

After turning down the courier position for the Platinum Chip, which resulted in your courier being knocked unconscious, robbed, and bent on revenge, Ulysses wants to make amends with the player and reveal all — but not before one tiny quest is completed. To complete said quest the courier must venture into The Divide, an earthquake-torn canyon that is prone to hurricanes. Complete the quest and find out why Courier Six turned down the job, or be killed in the process.

While Lonesome Road is the final piece of announced DLC for Fallout: New Vegas, Obsidian Entertainment does have two more DLC “packs” set for release later in September, on the 27th. Titled Courier’s Stash and Gunner Runners’ Arsenal, these two DLC packs will give gamers access to weapons, armor, and recipes that were previously unavailable on the Wasteland.

Courier’s Stash unlocks the four pre-order bonuses from Fallout: New Vegas: The Caravan Pack, Classic Pack, Mercenary Pack and Tribal Pack for anyone who wants to fork over $1.99 (160 MS Points). Gun Runners’ Arsenal on the other hand unlocks unique weapons, weapon mods, ammo types and recipes for the courier to play around with. Obviously these aren’t DLC quests, but they might give significant advantages during the more difficult quests like Dead Money.

Whether this is the end for Fallout: New Vegas or not, Lonesome Road does promise the type of storyline continuation gamers were hoping would come along a bit earlier in the DLC cycle. Old World Blues and Honest Hearts were engaging standalone quest lines, but they were just that: standalone. While we hope this isn’t the last we hear New Vegas, hopefully Lonesome Road is a fitting end.

Is Lonesome Road the Fallout: New Vegas DLC quest you have been waiting for? Are you interested in more DLC for the game, apart from weapon and item “packs?”

Fallout: New Vegas’ Lonesome Road DLC releases September 20, 2011 for the PS3, PC, and Xbox 360.
