Obsidian Entertainment releases a strange image for its Project Louisiana game that could be a teaser for Fallout: New Orleans, Pillars of Eternity 2, or something else.

Ever since a trademark for Fallout: New Orleans was filed in Europe, fans of the Fallout franchise have been waiting anxiously for an announcement. It’s been five months since the trademark was discovered, though, and Bethesda has remained tight-lipped on the matter. However, a recent image released by Obsidian Entertainment, the studio that worked on Fallout: New Vegas, seems to be teasing the existence of Fallout: New Orleans.

The image is meant to be a teaser for Obsidian’s next game, currently known by its codename, Project Louisiana. It features a pipe and grain, with the quote, “I used to dream that when my god came back, he would forgive us. That’s the trouble with dreams. Sooner or later, we all have to wake up.” Unfortunately, there’s no official confirmation that the image is a teaser for Fallout: New Orleans, but there is some evidence that backs up that theory.

For one, New Orleans is the largest city in the state of Louisiana, making the “Project Louisiana” codename suspect. Secondly, there is the aforementioned trademark for Fallout: New Orleans that was filed in Europe to consider. It’s not uncommon for game companies to file trademarks that never get used, but with Fallout such a big moneymaker for Bethesda and no new Elder Scrolls game in sight, it seems like Fallout: New Orleans stands a better chance at materializing than many other random video game trademarks.

Fallout: New Orleans Possibly Teased by Obsidian - Project Louisiana teaser

Besides the trademark, we know that Obsidian wants to make a new Fallout game, and considering the studio’s past success with the franchise, it makes sense for Bethesda to trust it with Fallout: New Orleans. It’s also worth noting that Fallout: New Vegas launched two years after Fallout 3 hit store shelves, and the two year anniversary of Fallout 4‘s launch is coming up, making the timing right for a Fallout: New Orleans announcement.

Of course, Obsidian could be teasing a game other than Fallout: New Orleans. Another theory that has been making the rounds on the Internet is that the image is meant to tease Pillars of Eternity 2, the sequel to the Baldur’s Gate spiritual successor Pillars of Eternity that Obsidian released a couple of years ago to rave reviews.

Until Obsidian is ready to reveal more information, it’s hard to say definitively what Project Louisiana is or what the image is teasing. Perhaps more images will be released in the near future to paint a clearer picture, but until then, all fans can do is speculate about whether Obsidian is teasing Fallout: New OrleansPillars of Eternity 2, or a brand new IP entirely.

Fallout: New Orleans is rumored to be in development for unspecified platforms.
