In the world of cosplay, the Fallout franchise has supplied no shortage of inspiration. Costumes inspired by characters and items from the game’s world have become a staple at gaming conventions thanks to the franchise’s unique post-apocalyptic vision and the crazy armor featured in each game. Unfortunately for one cosplayer, wearing that kind of costume outside of a convention can definitely scare people who aren’t as familiar with the series. And also lead to some trouble with the law…
Things went south for a particular Fallout cosplayer in Grande Prairie, Canada when he decided to walk through town in his power armor cosplay, carrying a New California Republic flag. The costume enthusiast was apparently on his way to Lynn’s Alterations at Bell Tower Plaza to have same changes made to his wardrobe when a few of the locals became alarmed.
After seeing some of the props attached to the costume, multiple residents called the local police and reported a suspicious individual roaming the streets with a gasmask and a bullet proof vest. Some worried citizens even claimed that he looked like he may have a bomb on his back. As you might expect, this sent the local law enforcement in the cosplayer’s direction in a hurry.
The cosplayer was at the alterations shop when the police arrived on the scene and evacuated the area. Luckily everyone remained calm and the cosplayer was able to explain why he looked like he just walked out of a nuclear warzone. The police realized the misunderstanding, but still had to take him into custody. The cosplayer was eventually released without any charges, but the police officers did inform him that there is a time and a place for cosplay and maybe walking through a city street in full costume may be inappropriate.
As for the bombs that some residents claim to have seen, it turns out these were repurposed Pringles cans that had been painted silver. It seems silly in retrospect, but better safe than sorry.
