E3 2021 and the Summer Game Fest have come and gone, but excitement for Bethesda's Starfield has continued to grow. A variety of exciting new information about the sci-fi action-adventure game was shared both during the Xbox Games Showcase for E3 2021 and afterward. It was enough of a deluge of new details that some exciting Starfield news initially slipped by. One big example is the revelation of Starfield's composer, who is a familiar face known for his work on the Dragon Age and Fallout franchises.

In mid-June, composer Inon Zur confirmed on his official webpage that he would be working with Bethesda once again as part of the Starfield team. As part of a prepared statement, Zur described his composition efforts on Starfield as having a "unique, classical sci-fi direction." He then pointed fans toward the Starfield teaser trailer shared during the Xbox Games Showcase, which features a brief example of the work he's done.

Zur was also extremely complimentary toward the team at Bethesda. He said that he has "admiration and appreciation" to Todd Howard, Bethesda Audio Director Mark Lamper, and the entirety of Bethesda for entrusting the scoring of Starfield to him. Zur goes so far as calling the opportunity an "honor." Zur is very excited about the project and is approaching his work with as much respect and excitement as he has the dozens of games he's worked on prior.

The sentiment is shared from Bethesda's side, as well. A quote from Todd Howard describes Zur as a "good friend and long-time collaborator," noting that music is one of the first things that's worked on as part of a major project like Starfield. Zur is said to have been working on Starfield's score for multiple years. Howard describes what Zur's done as "beautiful and wondrous," adding that those at Bethesda can't wait to share more of Starfield's music with fans.

A second introduction to Starfield's score was teased in the second trailer shared during E3 2021, titled "The Journey Begins." The video teases a variety of concept art and behind-the-scenes footage, set to some of Zur's Starfield music. It's serene, but hinting at more epic and adventurous sounds.

Zur has composed the soundtracks for many epic video games in the past. Blockbuster games like Baldur's Gate 2, SOCOM 2, the 2008 Prince of Persia reboot trilogy, Crysis, Dragon Age: Origins, Soulcalibur 5, and Fallout 4, are just a glimpse at his back catalog. But Starfield looks to be Zur's first big foray into AAA sci-fi, the likes of which will be compared to Halo, Mass Effect, and Destiny.

Starfield releases November 11, 2022 on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
