With the Fallout 76 beta set to begin in a few weeks, promotions for the game are expected to ramp up. However, an unexpected promotion last night placed the series favorite Vault Boy on the ice with the NHL team, the Washington Capitals. Last night's game, which was against the Boston Bruins, was a wild one for sure, as the Capitals started their title defense strong with a 7-0 win. It's also worth mentioning that the Washington Capitals are reportedly Bethesda's favorite hockey team as well.

Essentially, someone in a Vault Boy costume showed up to the game and sat on the Zamboni during intermissions, giving fans one of the most unexpected marketing ploys to date. According to reports of those there, the Capitals arena announcer Wes Johnson also performed Fallout voices over the PA as well. If anything's to be sure about this strategy, it's that any Washington Capitals fans in the audience looking forward to Fallout 76 received a real treat.

Bethesda marketing boss Pete Hines even weighed on the the event, stating it was no coincidence that the Capitals won on the same night that Vault Boy appears. It's worth mentioning that he, Todd Howard, and other employees even skipped a bit of E3 prep to catch the Stanley Cup in person.

Of course, this isn't the only big news to hit Fallout 76 lately, as Hines has also recently confirmed that 400+ hours of footage for the multiplayer action-RPG would be made available soon. This huge reveal of footage could be several gamers' deciding factor over whether or not to purchase the title, as several are still turned off by the "online-only" requirement.

Nevertheless, those who plan on participating in Fallout 76 beta may want to clear some space on their hard drives. After all, the beta size turned out to be a whopper, though there are larger ones out there. Regardless, fans will get their first chance to return to a very different Wasteland in just a few weeks.

Fallout 76 launches on November 14, 2018 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The beta starts on October 23 for Xbox One and then October 30 for PlayStation 4 and PC.
