Fallout is one of those franchises fans just keep coming back to, and with good reason. Bethesda has been keeping the setting fresh with Fallout 76, and the update set to drop this Thursday, May 21st brings exciting limited time events, customization options, and items, along with the usual bug fixes.

Players who visit with allies in their C.A.M.P. will be greeted by a new "Customize" option, which allows them to share their wardrobe with their allies. Players will be able to give their allies literally anything they themselves can wear. If someone wants their right hand man to wear a beer hat and trench coat, they totally can. A Radicals Face Mask and spike armor? Absolutely. It's all on the table.

The first thing Fallout 76 players should do when the update hits (after dressing up their allies) is to go straight to the Ash Heap, where through the weekend (May 21st-25th) a "Hunt for the Treasure-Hunter" event will be available. Mole Miners are swarming the Appalachian Mountains in search of treasure, and the treasure hunters will soon be hunted themselves. After this weekend, other event areas will be announced.

Fallout 76 Player is Trying to Map Every Item in the Game

Mole Miners may resemble walking trash bags wearing gas masks more than the legendary creatures they really are, but caution should still be taken when first approaching them. Their garbled grunts and heavy breathing through their masks are quite distinct, so players will want to break out those headphones if they want to get your hands on Mole Miner Pails, which contain all the treasure they have been hoarding. The miners drop three tiers of pails: Dusty Mole Miner Pails (low-tier), regular Mole Miner Pails (medium), and Ornate Mole Miner Pails (high-tier).

Inside the pails, there are Outfits, Mounted Head Plans, a new Backpack Plan, and the Marine Armor Helmet Plan, allowing players to craft the exciting new items Bethesda has added. The unopened pails themselves cannot be sold to vendors, but vendors will sell Empty Mole Miner Pails for caps, which can then be crafted into low, medium, or high-quality pails. Some players might want to keep one or two stashed away just as a collectible.

There is also the limited-time "Survivor's" Challenges, through which players can unlock the Survivor themed cosmetic rewards in 52-player battle royale matches. Each of the 8 challenges will appear daily in the Character Challenge screen until all 8 are available, and they must be completed in order. The first reward is unlocked with 150 Overseer XP, the middle 6 rewards are 2000 XP each, and the last one is 2500 XP. Overseer XP will roll over from one challenge to the next. These challenges will remain available until June 11th at 7pm ET.

There are new weapons to be found in supply crates as well, which have all been carefully balanced for combat in the Nuclear Winter. The Gauss Shotgun, the Bow, and the Cattleprod are sure to add a bit of excitement to fights (who doesn't want to pump a few thousand volts into a molerat?).

Notable bug fixes include tweaks to stealth (receiving stealth from multiple sources will no longer make enemies instantly see you), throttling back how many boss Scorched spawn on top of Thunder Mountain Power Plant, and a fix to the player's body not rendering when they wear the Communist Militant Hat. NPCs also received a ton of bug fixes.

All these are objectively good changes, but there may be players out there who were still hoping for something different, such as adding pets to the game.
