Since Bethesda announced Fallout 76, fans have been wondering when the game would be available. Well, during Bethesda's E3 2018 press conference, Fallout 76 game director Todd Howard broke the news and confirmed that the game will launch on November 14, 2018 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
The release date for Fallout 76 is in line with previous rumors, but also contradicts others. For example, many theorized that Fallout 76 would release this year, as Bethesda tends to avoid announcing games years in advance (though there were a couple of exceptions tonight in the form of Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6). However, many others thought the game would be available in late October, which has turned out to be false.
The theory that Fallout 76 would release in late October came about from fans analyzing its announcement trailer. In the announcement trailer, we are shown a Pip-Boy that has the date 27 OCT 2102 displayed. Some thought this meant that Fallout 76 would release on October 27 of this year, though that being a Saturday made it unlikely.
With October 27 being out, fans then thought that the game would launch at the end of October, perhaps near Halloween. This would still match up somewhat with the date on the Pip-Boy, plus the decorations seen in Vault 76 in the trailer indicate that the game may have a Halloween theme. However, it's worth pointing out that October is already a busy month for the game industry, with blockbuster titles like Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, Battlefield 5, and Red Dead Redemption 2 all set to release within weeks of each other, so it wouldn't have made much sense for Bethesda to throw Fallout 76 into the mix as well.
November's releases are nothing to scoff at either, but Fallout 76 will face far less competition by releasing on November 14. So far, the only big competition it has is Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee, and it's arguable that those aren't really titles that Fallout 76 is directly competing with anyway.
Besides announcing a release date, Bethesda revealed a lot more about Fallout 76 during its E3 2018 press conference, providing story details, highlighting its base-building features, and confirming that the game will be an online multiplayer survival title as previously rumored.
