Bethesda's latest Fallout experience, Fallout 76, has had a very long journey since its release back in 2018. Despite the rocky launch, Fallout 76 has seen consistent updates, improvements and quality of life changes in order to straighten out the core experience. This September a new experience is set to hit bringing players back to a previously explored locale in an older entry, The Pitt.

Fans of Fallout more specifically, Fallout 3, fondly remember the expansion. The Pitt brought players to a war torn version of Pittsburgh and tasked players with infiltrating a raider camp after hearing that the raider boss has reportedly found a cure for mutations. Despite Fallout 76 serving as a prequel to the previous Fallout titles, players will be revisiting the legendary locale in the upcoming expansion with The Pitt visibly boasting the same atmosphere.

In an official blog post from Bethesda released during QuakeCon, the developer provides more insight into The Pitt. Players will be leaving the borders of Appalachia for the first time ever and will be tasked with aiding a fledgling faction against an onslaught of Raider activity. After having been previously announced during the Microsoft's Xbox and Bethesda Showcase back in June 2021, the official launch date for Expeditions: The Pitt is September 13.

Bethesda also goes on to detail what players can see when The Pitt goes live. Players will revisit Pittsburgh, and much like the Fallout 3 expansion, players will have to battle through the vicious Trogs. There is a power struggle going on between the blue-collar Union faction and power-hungry Raider group, The Fanatics, with players being tasked to help the Union overcome The Fanatics. Doing so will grant a variety of in-game rewards such as new weapons and armor.

Finally, The Pitt will be introducing a new four player experience called Expeditions which seemingly function similar to Destiny 2's Strike game mode. Bethesda describes Expeditions as large-scale repeatable missions that can be tackled solo or with a group of four. These missions will scale to a team's player level while completing these missions will reward experience, loot, and Stamps with Stamps being a new form of currency that will grant Expedition-themed loot.

The road ahead for Fallout 76 remains a long one as Bethesda is committed to a five-year plan with the online title. However, The Pitt seems to a step in the right direction as traveling back in time can give developers insight as to what will work best for the future.

Fallout 76 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
