Fallout 76 continues to be a magnet for disappointment and rage as a recent patch introduced some new game breaking bugs.

One of these new bugs is particularly troubling, as it somehow breaks the legendary effects of armor whenever the player reloads their weapon. Naturally, Fallout 76 players (those that haven't left or been banned by Bethesda for trying to help) are upset.

Many players have noticed the defense stats for their legendary armor pieces drop drastically whenever they reload their weapons. One player, Jas Thomson, even shared a video on Reddit demonstrating just how devastating an effect this bug can cause. At the beginning of the video, their armor is at 519 defense. After firing two shots and reloading once, it suddenly dropped to 414. Their energy resistance also dropped from 343 to 238. The condition of the armor pieces and their individual resistances remain the same, but the total somehow dropped.

It seems this bug may be related to the patch fixing an issue with certain weapons that are supposed to boost defense after reloading, as noted in the patch notes: "Reloading a weapon that has the '+250 Damage Resistance While Reloading' legendary effect no longer negates the effects of that weapon’s primary legendary attribute." This somehow caused a bug with the complete opposite effect, like how Fallout 76's subscription-only storage boxes would delete the materials placed in them. This bug also seems to happen with any weapon, not just the defense boosting ones. Some players even report experiencing the issue after reloading film into the in-game camera.

Bethesda is currently looking into the problem, which is difficult considering the bug isn't very consistent. There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to which armor pieces or armor effects are impacted by this bug. Some players report not seeing any change to their defense stats, while some say that it's only certain pieces of armor or only the primary effects and not the secondary that are getting affected. However, there are enough people complaining about it online to make it more than just a coincidence.

Unfortunately, there's also another bug that causes weapons and armor to break faster than they should. Gear that is supposed to be very durable is now breaking twice as fast. Some players have even reported their harpoon guns completely breaking down after only 15 shots.

This bug couldn't have come at a worse time, as Fallout 76's holiday event is set to begin tomorrow. In a similar fashion to Fallout 76's Halloween event, giant Scorch Beasts will be flying around Appalachia more than usual and will drop special gift packages when killed. It'll be especially challenging to kill them without reloading, and with armor and weapons that break twice as fast. Maybe players will get lucky and find some awesome hidden side quests that don't involve shooting.

Fallout 76 is available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
