As most Fallout 76 fans are well aware, Bethesda's online-only multiplayer title for the post-apocalyptic RPG franchise has had a pretty rough launch, especially after having received a plethora of negative user reviews. The game has seen its fair share of bugs and glitches in the West Virginian Wasteland, and the publisher and developer is steadily working on delivering fixes in a prompt manner. However, in order to implement them, players will need to be prepared for a big download, as the latest patch is 48.4 GB on consoles, with reports of it being around 15 GB on PC.

This latest patch updates Fallout 76 to version 1.0.1.8, 1.0.1.9, and 1.0.1.14 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC respectively. Bethesda has previously mentioned the performance and stability issues it planned on tackling, but the patch also has some other noteworthy changes that should make the game run more smoothly overall and reduce the amount of immersion-breaking moments. A few of the bigger changes can be found in the list directly below, but those who wish to see the full patch notes can do so right here.

  • Placed items no longer leave behind shadow outlines after being picked up
  • The game camera now pans more smoothly when player enters furniture
  • Some enemies no longer chase players farther than intended
  • Ghoul and Scorched Officers now drop nuke code pieces upon being killed
  • Fixed an issue that could cause Blueprints to break into smaller parts after logging out and back into Fallout 76
  • Paints applied to Power Armor during beta now appear correctly
  • Fixed issue where an item could return to broken state after repairs
  • Bureau of Tourism quest: Prickett’s Fort Token Dispenser can now be repaired
  • Players with Pacifist Mode enabled who engage in PvP by contesting a workshop owned by another player will now correctly deal full damage to that player if they remain hostile
  • Respawning after dying during PvP will now correctly clear any active hostile status towards other players.
  • Cap rewards now display correct amount when choosing “Seek Revenge” respawn option after being killed by another player.
  • When targeted by another player seeking revenge the correct reward amount for killing that player will be displayed
  • Take photo hotkey cannot be rebound and is tied to space bar on PC and A button on controllers
  • Take snapshot button in photomode displays correct hotkey
  • Fixed issue that could cause players to disappear from each other’s social menus if two players each sent a friend invite to one another
  • Fixed issue to prevent newly equipped Player icon from displaying to other players in Social Menu

For those unaware, the size of this most recent update for Fallout 76 on consoles is almost as large as its Day One download patch, which weighed in at a hefty 54.641 GB, which is bigger than the actual game file itself. Obviously, the size of the latest patch is so big due to the amount of fixes required, but hopefully, for the sake of both players and Bethesda, in-game issues will become less frequent over time and cause subsequent updates to diminish in size.

Taking all of this into account, Fallout 76 fans had prepared for bugs at launch, but it's safe to presume that many weren't expecting such a glut of them right out of the gate. That compounded with the fact that there have already been several reports of players cheating in the game definitely doesn't cast a favorable light on the title. With any luck, Bethesda will be able to nip the majority of Fallout 76's most glaring problems in the bud as soon as possible.

Fallout 76 is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
