There has been quite a bit of hate aimed at Fallout 76 but there are at least a couple of gamers who got something special out of the title. Two devoted users got married inside the game and the ceremony came complete with an officiant who was decked out in power armor. They also managed to outfit the ceremony with various Nuka Cola decorations.
In the process of throwing a wedding together, Twitter user Rickforb and her spouse wanted to show off that Fallout 76 wasn't all about fighting mutants and surviving roving gangs of killer bandits. Gamers have done this kind of thing in MMOs before but this is one of the first time anyone has tried an actual wedding ceremony inside the world that Bethesda built.
As for whether or not this was a real wedding or just something put on to play around in the game, Rickforb told PCGamesN that it was a little bit of both. "We were already married, but just signed papers with no ceremony or celebration." She added that the man who officiated the wedding put in most of the work in pulling the party off. While some gamers were roaming the wastelands looking for ways to nuke their opponents, he was out there looking and finding a couple of digital wedding rings.
Lest you think the couple didn't cover all their bases, there is even a little digital wedding album on Twitter. A glance at the photos shows the pair definitely managed to stage the ceremony in a way that could only be done in Fallout 76. In talking about how everything went down, the man who oversaw the union says they carried the whole thing out inside the Mothman Museum.
All of this takes advantage of what games like Bethesda's newest are capable of when people use a little imagination. This kind of thing has been carried out in titles like World of Warcraft before and it's unlikely this will be the last time it will happen inside this digital world. Considering that Bethesda is planning on bringing more features, items, and quests in the coming months, it's possible the game is going to get closer to its full potential in 2019.
