Fallout 76 was a controversial game before its release, and it continues to divide players now months after its release. Given that fact, it's only fitting that any Fallout 76 apparel be equally polarizing. Bethesda is bringing attention to a new line of branded Fallout 76 leather jackets, and it isn't just the jacket's extravagant design that's raising eyebrows, it's also the shockingly steep price tag.

For big fans of Fallout 76–and the color blue–Bethesda's new garment may look like a welcome addition to their winter wardrobe. It's made from genuine lambskin leather and features a variety of faithful references to the Vault Suit from Fallout 76. However, the "Vault 76 Premium Leather Jacket" will set buyers back a whopping $276 before tax and shipping, perhaps making a faux-leather alternative an attractive prospect.

The leather jacket was revealed on the Fallout Twitter account, accompanied by front and back shots and a link to the Bethesda Store, where the item appears to be available and ready to ship. The product description boasts the jacket's premium materials, aesthetics, and included Fallout 76 garment bag, describing the coat as "The best outerwear for exploring the wasteland of West Virginia."

Reading through comments on the Twitter reveal, it's clear that not everyone feels the same way Bethesda does about the big-ticket item. Some comments praise the design and build quality, while others lament having to pay nearly $300 for a Fallout-themed jacket.

Others, however, are clearly still feeling aggrieved about Fallout 76 itself. Twitter user Boii writes, "Stop selling fallout 76 related [products] until you fix your game." Another account simply posts, "Nylon Jacket**," referencing last year's notorious canvas-bag fiasco.

This isn't the first time Bethesda has come under fire for selling Fallout 76 related accessories at a premium. Most recently, some fans were left underwhelmed when the $80 Nuka Dark rum they purchased arrived in a plastic bottle.

From the always-online, NPC-void design aspects touted during development, to the rocky release and performance bugs, Fallout 76 has been a common target of ire since long before its launch. Recently, a Skyrim mod took aim squarely at one of Fallout 76's most controversial elements, illustrating the extent of disappointment from some fans.

Fallout 76 is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
