Fallout 76 is nothing if not persistent. After many gamers wrote it off as broken in its early days, Bethesda has continued working hard on the title and has rewarded loyal wasteland enjoyers with numerous new content updates over the past few years.

The most recent of these updates added the ability for players to visit the iconic formerly-Pittsburgh Fallout location, The Pitt, which was last seen in Fallout 3. This guide will help Fallout 76 players to set off on a voyage to the trog-infested wonderland.

The Whitespring Refuge

Fallout 76 whitespring resort

Before they can temporarily leave West Virginia behind, players need to find transportation. Luckily, a new group of survivors has hunkered down in Appalachia, and they may prove useful. The newly refurbished Whitespring Refuge features several lovable new NPCs that will have players wondering why they dropped so many nuclear bombs onto the resort.

After talking to an NPC called Orlando, players will need to talk to various NPCs that give 'Refuge Daily' quests and provide stamps upon their completion. The 'Responders Reborn' main quest requires players to complete the NPCs' daily quests, and, when it's finished, players will then unlock the ability to visit The Pitt.

Visiting the Pitt

After completing the Responders Reborn quest for the first time, the vertibird that takes players to The Pitt will be considered 'charged' and ready to go. After every trip, players will need to complete the three daily quests before they can visit The Pitt again. However, it's possible to join another player on their expedition without needing to complete any daily quests at all.

While Fallout 76 makes it look like players need to speak with the vertibird pilot on the Whitespring Refuge's roof, this isn't actually the case. They simply need to open their map and find the expedition submenu. From there, provided they've fully charged the vertibird, players can start one of two (at the time of writing) expeditions into the Pitt.

Both "Union Dues" and "From Ashes to Fire" are fairly challenging, so players are encouraged to get their character to at least level 50 and prepare for expeditions with the following:

  • A set of Power Armor
  • A Hazmat suit
  • Plenty of Stimpaks
  • Plenty of Radaway
  • Food and water
  • Perk cards that compliment their playstyles
  • Disease cures
  • High-level weaponry
  • Plenty of inventory space for loot!

Fallout 76 is available on Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC.
