Just as predicted, QuakeCon weekend has been full of juicy details about the nitty gritty systems at play in Fallout 76. In addition to explaining how the game's Perk system runs, the Fallout 76 panel also answered some of the biggest questions about the game's PvP system.

Bethesda Games Studio director Todd Howard started out by explaining that Fallout 76 is built around both PvE and PvP. A main goal of the design team was to find a way to include the element of danger that comes along with PvP, without the usual griefing. The approach to achieve that balance is very interesting and unlike the usual solutions.

The game will allow players to attack another player when they come across them, but if the defending player doesn't fight back very little damage will be done. If the defending party ends up fighting back, then damage is increased to the normal rate.

If the player never fights back, it is still possible for the attacker to kill the other party, even with the damage nerf. If that ends up happening, the attacker's life gets a lot more complicated in-game. As a form of punishment, the attacker is marked as a Wanted Murderer. Like you might guess, that's not a good thing.

The player gets no loot, caps, or experience for the kill and a bounty is placed on their head. In addition to that, the player is also then marked on the map for all other players to see. If that doesn't sound like punishment enough, the Wanted Murderer is also unable to see any player indicators on the minimap.

If the murderer is successfully hunted down, the party who brought them to justice is paid a reward of Caps that comes out of the murderer's wallet.

The system sounds very creative and unlike most that we've seen in similar multiplayer survival games. It will be very interesting to see how it plays out and how often PvP rivalries are born or if those fights are just avoided entirely.

Check back for more details throughout the weekend and as we get closer to the launch of the game's beta.

Fallout 76 is set to release on November 14, 2018 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
