When playing through the Fallout series, it is common to stumble across Easter eggs and references to other shows and pop culture. These show what were popular at the time while also hiding something clever in the game. Fallout 76 is no different, having numerous Easter eggs for players to go out and find.

The Easter eggs in the Fallout series make references to movies, TV shows, and books as well. There are even references to other video games that players can search for. Make sure to look in hidden areas around the map, as there might just be a surprise to find.

10 Titanic

A person reaching for a skeleton arm

While exploring near the Summersville Lake, players might stumble across a skeleton on a door. This skeleton will be reaching down at another hand, making a reference to the end of Titanic. This is a reference to the scene where Kate Winslet's character is reaching out for Leonardo DiCaprio's character at the end.

Players rushing by might miss this, but others will wonder what this skeleton is doing. Maybe when there was a lake here, someone was trying to rescue their friend from drowning.

9 Is This Loss

Beer bottles in a certain position

To the west of the Pumpkin House, players will run into a glamping area. While explosions might ruin this site, walking up to the picnic table will reveal a surprising reference. Beer bottles will be placed in the same positions as the Loss comic.

The Loss comic does not have any words to it, instead only having poses to tell a story. This became popular, with the Loss meme being used in different forms of media. It seems someone is missing the internet in the post-war era, instead making their own memes with beer bottles.

8 Wastelad

The screen for a player to see when they play the game

Players can get games for their Pip-Boy by reading certain magazines. One of these games is called Wastelad, a reference to the game Wasteland that is the predecessor to the Fallout series. The Wastelad game follows the player as they leave their vault to fight against the invading Chinese soldiers and Chairman Cheng.

The game is also similar to the early gameplay of the Fallout series. The gameplay of Wastelad is similar to text-based adventures, with there being 2-d artwork for the enemies and other characters that are met throughout the adventure.

7 A Familiar Opening

Dead bodies tied up and in a cart

Players walking to the west of Vault 96 might stumble across a cart with three bodies in it. This is a reference to the opening of Skyrimwith the player being transported to Helgen in a cart. This is also one of the areas that players can wake up at if they drink Nukashine.

Players who drink Nukashine will experience the same fading screen when the player first starts Skyrim. Just be glad everyone is dead and there is no one to say "You are finally awake".

6 Breaking Bad

A skeleton near barrels full of money

It might not be New Mexico, but West Virginia is close enough. North of Sugar Grove, players will find a scene of a skeleton in a white lab coat. There are also bundles of money on the barrels and a single gas mask nearby as well. This is a reference to Breaking Bad, referencing where Walter White buried the money in the desert.

While the money might not be useful anymore, they can be collected to help with building. There is also the gas mask that can be used to go into areas full of toxins. At the very least, fans of both series will stumble across a reference that might seem normal in the wasteland.

5 IT

A clown doll in one of the refrigerators of the game

It might take an eagle eyed player to find this reference, or at least someone trying to gather supplies. At the Whitesprings Golf Club, players can find a clown doll in one of the refrigerators. This clown will be holding a red balloon, making a reference to IT and Pennywise the Clown.

Pennywise is shown in the movie with a red balloon, often using it to lure in children. Just remember this encounter while walking through the dark woods of West Virginia. Maybe there is something close behind.

4 Indiana Jones

The device used to make the Indiana Jones reference

When players first meet the Brotherhood of Steel, they are tasked with going to the basement. The player must extract a mysterious component, with one option having the player replace the component with sand. This is a reference to Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, as he does the same to an idol.

Of course, like in the movie, swapping the component with sand does not work out. Robots will come out and attack the player, requiring the robots to be killed before continuing. Just be glad it isn't a giant boulder this time.

3 One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest

A skeleton with a pillow over its face

While going through Fort Defiance, there will be an area the Brotherhood of Steel does not have under their control. Exploring this area will reveal a skeleton in a bed, with a pillow over their head. This might seem like a random murder, but it is a reference to the end of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

At the end of the movie, the main character named McMurphy is suffocated by another inmate. With bombs falling around, being suffocated is one of the better ways to go.

2 The Simpsons

One of the locations the actor narrates about

While going to the sites around West Virginia, players might get a narration from an actor named Dick Shale. When Shale introduces himself, he might mention he is from certain movies or shows. This is a reference to another character from The Simpsons, named Troy McClure, who does that same thing.

McClure is a washed up B-list actor who gives tours to hold on to his fame. While Shale might still be famous, it seems very similar. Shale can be found giving information at The Giant Teapot, Uncanny Caverns, Prickett's Fort, and other locations.

1 Pied Piper

Rats following an Eyebot playing the Pied Piper theme

During one random encounter, the player might come across radrats following an EyeBot. The EyeBot will be playing flute music as well, making a reference to the Pied Piper. In the original story, a flute player plays music to lead rodents out of a town to fix the town's rodent problem.

If there are friendly radrats near the player, make sure not to attack them. They will be led away, making them another person's problem. It is also a fun site to experience, as the radrats will be lined up one after the other.
