The Fallout 76 Fallout Worlds Update is now live, but this seems to be only the beginning of the updates planned for this game in the near future. Not only is Fallout 76 getting a Halloween Update, Spooky Scorched, in October, but a second patch will also be coming out later this year and bringing a variety of community-requested quality-of-life improvements with it.
The October Update will be bringing some spooky Halloween fun to post-apocalyptic West Virginia, which is set to last for exactly two weeks and focus on shooting costumed bad guys as well as trick-or-treating. The devs are also planning to use it to bring in a wave of new bug fixes once the Fallout Worlds Update has had a chance to settle in.
Also coming out this year is the 2021 December Update. Currently, it does not seem like this update will be directly linked to a holiday, as it will reportedly be focusing on finally bringing some community-requested quality-of-life improvements to Fallout 76 instead. According to the Fallout 76 team in the latest episode of Inside The Vault, fans can expect Public Test Server playtesting for the December Update to begin in early Autumn. Reportedly, more details about the upcoming updates will be made available in the coming weeks.
Although Fallout 76 held a Halloween event in 2019 known as Mischief Night, the event did not return for 2020. This year, it seems that it will be replaced entirely with the new Spooky Scorched event, which is described in the tail end of the video "Fallout 76: Making Appalachia Your Own with Fallout Worlds" posted to the Bethesda Softworks YouTube channel--specifically, about 17:56 minutes in. This video shows off several glimpses of the titular spooky scorched, enemies dressed in fun costumes like skeletons, mummies, and what appear to be tuxedos. Reportedly, some of these costumes have been seen before in the game, but others are brand new.
The developers claim that the event will allow players to collect mysterious candy, visit other players' camps, and effectively trick-or-treat, which could go very well or very poorly. Apparently, the game will also incentivize players to dress up in their own costumes and encourage players to decorate their camps with a spooky theme. Aside from these two major updates, Fallout 76 players will also have another event to look forward to this weekend: Hunt for the Treasure Hunter, which reveals that Treasure Hunter Mole Miners are about to breach the surface of Appalachia.
Fallout 76 is out now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
