Last week, Bethesda revealed it would be discussing a "significant new feature" coming to Fallout 76, teasing that it would change how players interacted with the game. Earlier today, the company officially confirmed what this feature will be, announcing a huge update known as Fallout Worlds.

Fallout Worlds will offer a range of new options regarding Fallout 76's servers, adding additional public servers with new features as well as the ability for players to create customizable private servers. The update will launch during the game's September update, although players on the Public Test Server can trial the feature starting today.

As for what they'll be trying out, Fallout Worlds' main addition is a range of new server options. It seems players will essentially be able to drastically tweak Fallout 76 to become the exact experience they want, whether that's enabling crazy jump heights, removing the need for electricity in base building, upping the spawn rate of certain creatures, giving themselves infinite ammo, or an array of other adjustments. It will essentially allow them to tailor-fit Fallout 76 to their playstyle and enjoy the game their way.

It will also split the game into two modes: Public Worlds and Custom Worlds. The former will be a selection of servers created by Bethesda's developers alongside the input of the community. The team notes that it'll show off the range of customization options available through the Fallout Worlds update, giving players inspiration for their own private servers.

For those wanting to create their own wacky take on Appalachia, Custom Worlds allows them to make a private server with their own specific customization options. Unfortunately, creating and customizing a private server will be limited to those paying for a monthly Fallout 1st membership, although regular players will be able to hop into the private world of a Fallout 1st member if invited.

It seems the addition is a big part of Fallout 76's future, with Bethesda promising to offer "more customizable options and ways to play to Fallout Worlds" following feedback from the community. Fallout Worlds isn't the only slice of content coming to Fallout 76 in the near future, with the game also getting a winter update called Tales From the Stars. It seems to be themed around aliens, with the teaser image showing a vault dweller pointing at a UFO. Next year, players will also be able to venture out on new missions titled Expeditions, with the first seeing them return to The Pitt, a location first visited during Fallout 3's lineup of DLC.

Fallout 76 is out now on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
