Update 6/13/2019: Welp.

Bethesda Game Studios is best known for its single player experiences, but the company's next big game, Fallout 76, will be an online multiplayer survival game. Since Fallout 76 has multiplayer, some have been wondering if the game will include a battle royale mode, considering the genre's current popularity. However, Bethesda has confirmed that not only will Fallout 76 not have a battle royale mode, but right now the company has no battle royale games in development at all.

This is according to Bethesda Global Senior Vice President Pete Hines, who spoke to GameSpot. "Just because battle royale is popular doesn't mean it's a good fit for us or our studios," Hines explained. He also said that Bethesda doesn't like to chase trends, pointing out how the company didn't release a Facebook game when those titles were at the height of their popularity.

However, just because Fallout 76 and none of Bethesda's current titles don't have battle royale, that doesn't mean the company isn't open to pursuing it in the future. Hines said that if someone at Bethesda were able to come up with a battle royale game that was "unique or different or cool," that the company may consider moving forward with the idea.

The lack of a battle royale mode may disappoint some fans, but others won't be bothered. After all, Fallout 76 is an online multiplayer survival game that is looking to deliver a much different experience than what battle royale games have to offer. Plus, it may not be wise for Bethesda to attempt to compete with the likes of Fortnite and PUBG, as those games appear to have quite the stranglehold on the market, with similar titles like Radical Heights failing to steal away the spotlight.

By not including a battle royale mode, Bethesda can focus its efforts on refining the core Fallout 76 multiplayer experience. While there are still a lot of unknown factors in regards to Fallout 76's multiplayer gameplay, what we do know sounds incredibly ambitious, and it will be interesting to see if Bethesda is able to deliver a game that lives up to the hype.

Fallout 76 will launch on November 14 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
