Bethesda is venturing into new territory with Starfield, the studio's first original IP in decades. But while many fans are looking forward to Starfield and its massive game world, others would like to see new entries in Bethesda's established franchises, particularly The Elder Scrolls and Fallout. It seems there will be a lot for Elder Scrolls and Fallout fans to look forward to in the years ahead, as Bethesda has confirmed Fallout 5.

Bethesda's Todd Howard was recently interviewed by IGN about Starfield. During the interview, Howard confirmed that Bethesda is going to make Fallout 5 after it's done with The Elder Scrolls 6. "Elder Scrolls 6 is in pre-production and, you know, we're going to be doing Fallout 5 after that," Howard said in the interview. Howard also said that Bethesda has "other projects" that it will be working on as well, though it's unclear what those projects may be.

This isn't the first time that Todd Howard has mentioned Fallout 5, but it's the first time that he's given fans an idea of when the game will be made. With Starfield launching in 2023, one has to imagine Elder Scrolls 6 will release a few years after that, and so it seems that Fallout 5 won't be out until near the end of the decade at the current rate. Even so, fans may still be excited to know for sure that Fallout 5 is on the way.

Fallout fans may be waiting quite a while to play Fallout 5, but hopefully Starfield is good enough to help tide them over in the meantime. They may also have a different Fallout project to play in the interim as well. It hasn't been announced in an official capacity, but rumor has it that Microsoft may be looking to move forward with a Fallout: New Vegas sequel, once again putting Obsidian Entertainment at the helm.

It remains to be seen if there's any legitimacy to the Fallout: New Vegas 2 rumors, but fans can count on Fallout 5 coming at some point after Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6 have hit store shelves. Whenever the game comes out, it's likely going to be console exclusive to Xbox consoles, so fans should keep that in mind. After all, part of the reason why Microsoft acquired Bethesda was to secure exclusive games for Xbox consoles and Game Pass, so there's no reason to think Fallout 5 will be any different in that regard.
