After teasing that the Fallout 4 VR E3 2017 demo will "blow your mind," Bethesda has finally showed its hand by unveiling the reveal trailer for the upcoming VR version of the studio's mega-popular post-apocalyptic RPG.

Scheduled for launch in 2017 for the HTC Vive, the one and a half minute reveal trailer offers up a brand new perspective at Fallout 4's Boston Commonwealth. Combat will take on a whole new dimension as players will swap out their trusty controllers (or keyboard and mouse) for some VR peripherals, thus adding in an extra element of urgency and difficulty in the proceedings. While V.A.T.S was not shown off in the trailer, the trusty PipBoy makes a return as part of the VR user interface, promising an interesting extra element into how enemies can be taken down using Fallout's trademark targeting system.

Interestingly, the trailer features an appearance from Fallout 4's most powerful NPC Liberty Prime, suggesting that Fallout 4 VR will comprise not only of the original game but also the DLC expansions released for the RPG. Beyond new combat footage and eye-catching scenes across the Boston Commonwealth landscape, the trailer also offers up a quick glimpse into how Fallout 4 VR's customization and building system works. While crafting is largely unchanged from the original game, the freedom of movement available with VR peripherals compared to the usual controller or keyboard and mouse setup offers up a more intuitive way of customizing and building settlements.

As for when players can expect to revisit the Boston Commonwealth with a VR headset, no official release date has been confirmed just yet, other than Bethesda's VR of PR and marketing Pete Hines confirming that it will be out at some point in 2017. Seeing as how the game has been in the works since E3 last year and looks to be in a promising state, it is very likely that more information about Fallout 4 VR will be announced very shortly.

Given that there have been suggestions that Fallout 4 VR could change the industry, the reveal trailer offers up a very promising look into where VR gaming can go. A return to the Boston Commonwealth is always a welcome prospect, and doing so in Fallout 4 VR is more than enough of a reason to go revisit the Fallout post-apocalyptic universe.

Fallout 4 VR is set to release in 2017 for the HTC Vive.
