About a month ago, Bethesda officially revealed the release date for the forthcoming Fallout 4 VR that's set to become available for the HTC Vive. With the launch for the virtual reality version of the post-apocalyptic RPG imminent, HTC Corporation has now openly announced its decision to include the game with HTC Vive bundles as a free download in a bid to further thrust the VR headset into visibility in the marketplace.

As it so happens, Bethesda has already set a price of $60 for Fallout 4 VR for when it launches on December 12, 2017, but those who purchase the HTC Vive hardware bundle will get a redemption code to download the title at no additional cost when it comes out later this year. Existing Vive customers who purchase Fallout 4 VR will receive a decent deal as well, as they will be able to sign up for a bonus three-month Viveport Subscription offer – allowing consumers to choose from more than 250 pieces of content from a service that normally costs $7 a month – that will be available prior to the game’s launch.

For those unaware, Fallout 4's PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One iterations were generally considered to be among the top 10 best video games of 2015, as it won more than 200 “best of” awards. And according to Joel Breton, general manager of Vive Studios, the virtual reality version of the post-apocalyptic RPG will have the same content as its console and PC counterparts, with hundreds of locations, characters, and quests fully playable in VR.

Taking all of this into consideration, the Fallout 4 VR HTC Vive bundle shows that the company is getting more assertive about pushing its $600 virtual reality headset into the mass market, despite the fact that analysts have begun to dial back their expectations for hardware and software sales within the medium. Nevertheless, with Bethesda being one of the biggest and most notable publishers and developers in the gaming industry, its decision to embrace virtual reality with Fallout 4 VR shows that it's willing to support VR in order to help the platform's continual growth.

Fallout 4 VR is slated to release on December 12 2017 for the HTC Vive.
