Most gamers play and enjoy multiple video games, and it's often up to modders to combine popular franchises unless there's an official crossover happening. Halo fans playing Fallout 4 can now experience the Covenant's iconic plasma rifles in postapocalyptic America thanks to a mod.

Fallout 4 already has a huge selection of guns in the nuclear wasteland that Fallout players know so well, but there's been no official events or DLC that crossover with the Halo franchise. But players don't need to rely on official sources if they want to really enrich their games, especially as Fallout has a thriving modding community that creates content ranging from helpful to just plain strange. The plasma gun from Halo falls somewhere between these two, and it's still a work in progress, but it looks very cool.

Reddit user rukeen2 posted a video of the Halo weapon with the trademark glossy sheen and sound effects that players of that franchise are familiar with. The user also shows off the red Brute version in the inventory, although the guns themselves don't look differentiated mechanically and are separate only in terms of the player's visual preference. The visuals themselves are very impressive, but the OP states there's still more work to be done to make this a true homage to the franchise weapons.

The user is interested in making the weapon more realistic, and asked the community for help with overheat and charge depletion as they are in Halo. A few comments gave the OP some ideas, which just goes to show how passionate and skilled the Fallout mod community can be. The weapon also seems to be a little overpowered, at least according to its creator, who says the Brute rifle takes down deathclaws "too quickly," which may be a concern for those who enjoy a challenge in Fallout.

The mod is available for PC, but the creator made a point to welcome anyone who wants to port the mod to Xbox. Given the PS4 mod restrictions, it's unfortunately unlikely that PlayStation players will be able to enjoy this mod. Of course, there are still plenty of interesting weapons to find in Fallout 4 regardless of what platform players are using, but for now, most people who are enthusiastic about mods have to choose their platform wisely.

Since Halo Infinite is one of the most anticipated games to be released in 2021, it makes sense that reception to this mod in the Fallout 4 community is very positive, as many people are excited to see classic weapons from one favorite game appear in another. The high quality and attention to detail on the modder's part certainly help too.

Fallout 4 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
