When Bethesda announced that they would be releasing a limited edition of Fallout 4 with a faithful, working replica of the series' iconic Pip-Boy, fans scrambled to pre-order one. Unfortunately, given the Pip-Boy edition's limited nature, some fans were left without a pre-order to call their own.

Bethesda has repeatedly stated that they cannot and will not produce more Pip-Boy editions for Fallout 4, which has led to some fans creating their own Pip-Boys. However, it seems that Bethesda still had a few Pip-Boys up their sleeve for a lucky few.

Earlier today, the button to place a pre-order for the Pip-Boy Edition of Fallout 4 on the official online Bethesda store went live, allowing pre-orders again. The window of opportunity only lasted for a brief moment, though, as Bethesda rapidly sold out of whatever stock they had made available. At the time of this writing, the pre-order page has returned to its sold out state, and pre-orders are no longer available.

Bethesda has been adamant that no more Pip-Boys will be manufactured for Fallout 4, upholding the limited edition nature of its release. It seems unlikely that they've changed their minds on the matter, as they most likely would have made an announcement prior to listing new Pip-Boys for sale. The strongest likelihood is that a few units became available due to cancelled pre-orders. Bethesda allows customers to cancel for a full refund, and also warns that orders will be cancelled if customers are found purchasing more than one unit.

There could also be the slim possibility that Bethesda had somehow miscounted the number of units they had left to sell, but it seems unlikely. Chances are they would have considered that possibility before publicly announcing that the stock can't be expanded.

The Pip-Boy has been an iconic part of the Fallout series, and is essential to the survival of vault dwellers, and a necessity for using the VATS combat system. It's no surprise that fans are eager to own one, especially since it can interact directly with Fallout 4.

If you're still hoping to get an official Pip-Boy of your own, you might stand a chance if you keep watching the official Bethesda store page. There will probably be few cancellations from now until November 10th, if any, but at this point it's probably your best shot aside from buying one from a reseller at a higher price after the Pip-Boy edition is released. Of course, if you don't mind it being unofficial, you could always use a 3D printer to create your own Pip-Boy right now.

Do you think that the hype over the limited Pip-Boy edition is overblown? Or are you still eager to get one for yourself? Let us know in the comments.

Fallout 4 is set to release on November 10, 2015, for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
