The Fallout New Vegas total conversion mod for Fallout 4 has released its first gameplay footage. While it is just a taste of what will likely be a long road, the New Vegas footage shows promise and looks very impressive in the Fallout 4 engine.

Total conversion mods are nothing new for the world of Fallout, Bethesda Game Studios, or even Bethesda published products, and they are unlikely to lose steam anytime soon. Projects like Skyblivion and Skywind want to take the games of old and put them into the current titles. But in the case of a total conversion mod like Skyblivion, the work will require numerous years until it bears fruit. And by that time it’s likely that a new Elder Scrolls or Fallout game will be out, and the process will begin anew.

There isn’t much to say about the Fallout New Vegas conversion mod based on the footage since it is more of a proof of concept than anything else. The color scheme and aesthetic seem to be on point, but the interior leaves a lot to be desired. What makes New Vegas so memorable is that it took a locale as iconic as Las Vegas and imagined it after the nuclear apocalypse.

Fallout New Vegas is a title that is arguably the most polarizing of the Bethesda published projects in recent memory. Developed by Obsidian Entertainment, New Vegas was meant to build off of the success of Fallout 3, which burst onto the scene with a wholly new approach to the franchise. However, some found the game to be lacking when compared to Fallout 3.

Others, however, actually prefer New Vegas to Fallout 3 and consider it the best game in the series thus far. It’s why a conversion mod like this will have a lot of followers if it continues to gain steam and the fans behind the project stay with it.

A lot of fans were not happy with the way Fallout 4 turned out and with the assumption being that Bethesda will turn to Elder Scrolls next; they may have a long wait before the next game in the series. Perhaps this mod will be able to satisfy them for the time being
