One intrepid modder has given post-apocalyptic RPG Fallout 4 a fantastic bit of fan-made content: a jetpack that is usable without wearing power armor.

Fallout 4 is a game that prides itself of the level of freedom given to the player. With the entirety of the wasteland of a post-nuclear war Boston to explore, adventurers have been finding a wealth of content out in the savage landscape of the apocalypse. Those having to take part in long journeys through the Commonwealth may find their route a little bit easier with a new mod, however, which allows the user to wear a jetpack.

Previously, the use of a jetpack was limited to players wearing the Fallout series’ signature power armor. However, this new titbit of fan-made content does away with that requirement, instead allowing the player to breeze around Fallout 4 with ease. In fact, the content is reminiscent of cult classic The Rocketeer – and that alone is bound to make this mod incredibly popular.

Those interested in checking out the mod can do so over at Nexus Mods. Created by a player known as SomberX, the jetpack can be used with regular armor, and is strapped to the back of the clothing that the user is wearing. What’s more, the jetpack can be crafted in game by using the armor tab at any chemistry station.

Separating the jetpack from the game’s power armor is bound to be a popular move. Although the armor itself is hardly difficult to come by, with different sets littered across the Commonwealth, the amount of time a player can wear the armor is limited by the use of Fusion Cores. Although there are guides to Fusion Core locations, the necessity of these items means that some players have limited their use of power armor in the game to moments where it is required for missions.

The jetpack mod joins a list of other fantastic user-made content already available for Fallout 4. Although the game only released in November, plenty of modders have already put their mind to fun content, including the use of lightsabers as melee weapons. Meanwhile, The Macho Man Fallout 4 mod has now finally arrived.

As well as PC players enjoying fan-made content for Fallout 4, Xbox One and PS4 users are still waiting patiently for news surrounding the mod availability on the console versions of the game. Mod support for the Xbox One version was announced alongside the game’s reveal at E3 2015, with a further update stating that both PS4 and Xbox One owners would eventually get mod compatibility. Let’s hope that console players will be able to roam Fallout 4 with the help of mods soon.

Fallout 4 is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
