After a series of performance issues with the PlayStation 4 version of Fallout 4's Far Harbor DLC, players are now able to re-download an updated version of the expansion.

Following the recent release of the Far Harbor DLC for Fallout 4, the expansion has been mired with a number of performance issues, especially for PlayStation 4 players. Bethesda was quick to recognize the problem, and after taking to its official forums to reassure players that the development team is "actively working on more improvements", it was expected that a Far Harbor bug fix would come in the form of a patch. As it turns out, the PS4 performance fix is going to be a bit bigger than a simple patch.

In order to address the Far Harbor performance issues on the PS4, Fallout 4 players will have to re-download the whole expansion again. Rather than simply patching the DLC, Bethesda opted to fix all performance issues by releasing an updated version of Far Harbor on the North American PlayStation Store. For those who are unaware on how to re-download Far Harbor, Bethesda also posted up a series of instructions:

  • Confirm Fallout 4 is not running.
  • Select "Related Items". This is found under the Fallout 4 icon in the PS4 dashboard.
  • Select "My Add-Ons".
  • Select the download arrow next to Far Harbor.
  • You should see a notice that Far Harbor has been Added to Downloads.
  • Wait for the downloadable content to finish downloading and installing before starting Fallout 4.

It must be noted that this fix is currently only available for North American players, and gamers from the EU side of the world will unfortunately have to wait a little bit longer for the updated version of Far Harbor.

Given the sheer size of the Far Harbor DLC, some bugs and issues were to be expected, though not quite on the level as this. Having said that, when the expansion is running well, Far Harbor is a worthy addition to Fallout 4 according to our review of the DLC.

While PS4 players have had to deal with these performance issues, Xbox One players have had an easier time with Far Harbor and all the recently-released Fallout 4 content. Console mods for Fallout 4 were launched for the Xbox One just days ago, and the fan response was so positive that Bethesda were quick to declare the launch to be a "major success" and that more features will be coming in the future.

News of this Far Harbor fix is sure to be some welcome news for North American PS4 players, and be sure to stay tuned on any updates regarding Fallout 4, console mods, and the updated EU version of the expansion.

Fallout 4 and the Far Harbor DLC are out now and available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
