Fallout 4's Far Harbor DLC brings over 20 hours of new gameplay to the Boston Wasteland this week. Here is everything you need to know to get started.

The Fallout 4 community is still thriving half a year after the game's release thanks to a talented modding community, the lack of a level cap, and engaging DLC. The first two DLC packs introduced a short story mission that allows players to build robots and customize some of the game's companions and the second, smaller, DLC pack added a lot of new tools to the settlement building side of the game. The biggest DLC patch attached to the Fallout 4 season pass arrives this week and adds lots of new quests to the world.

The Far Harbor DLC supposedly includes over 20 hours of gameplay and should bring plenty of players back to the game for one more adventure. Unlike most video game releases, the content drops on Thursday (May 19), instead of Tuesday. With the release window less than 24 hours away, players will want to start getting their character in place and ready for new assignment to begin.

More than a few players have stumbled over getting started with the DLC for the first two small Fallout 4 expansions. Follow these steps and you should be questing with Nick Valentine as soon as possible...

Players will need to make sure that they have downloaded and installed the most recent patch before getting started. Unfortunately, the DLC won't download automatically, even if players have the Fallout 4 season pass, so be sure to go and grab it from Steam, PSN, or Xbox Live before trying to play on Thursday. The DLC should be available on the Fallout 4 store page in Steam and Xbox Live. PlayStation users will find it in the new releases section of the DLC menu.

Once the DLC is installed, launch Fallout 4 and visit the add-ons section before loading your saved game. If Far Harbor is not listed as one of your add-ons, you'll need to close down the game and restart. This might take one or two tries if the DLC pack was just downloaded.

Once Far Harbor is on the list of add-ons, it's time to get started. Make sure that your character has progressed through the main campaign far enough that they have arrived at Diamond City and met Nick Valentine. If that basic criteria has been met, check your quest log and there should be a new mission available to get you started on the Far Harbor storyline.

A few details have already been leaked by beta testers for readers who are into spoilers, but we recommend waiting one more day and heading into the adventure fresh. Check back over the next few days for new guides and Game Rant's review of the Far Harbor DLC pack.
