Comedian and talk show host Conan O’Brien teases a “very special” segment that will give fans a closer look at Bethesda’s forthcoming post-apocalyptic RPG, Fallout 4.
Tonight, Conan O’Brien will dedicate a portion of his TBS variety hour program to focus on Bethesda’s forthcoming release of Fallout 4. The host is set to feature Fallout 4 during the TV show’s recurring segment known as Clueless Gamer.
In the promotional clip seen through the Team Coco source link at the bottom of the article, Conan and his gaming cohort Aaron Bleyaert are decked out in jumpsuits reminiscent of the ones found on Fallout 4‘s Vault 111 protagonist, with the former holding one of the game’s laser rifles, and the latter displaying a physical copy of the title’s Xbox One port. Of course, the comedian couldn’t resist commenting on the full-body unitards, saying that they’re only being worn for the sake of “circulation”.
Fallout 4‘s inclusion in the popular segment won’t be the first time a Bethesda game has gotten the Clueless Gamer treatment, as the studio’s The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has previously been featured on the show. In fact, a slew of blockbuster titles have been given airtime on Conan, such as Super Smash Bros., Watch Dogs, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Microsoft’s Xbox One exclusive Halo 5: Guardians, and many others.

Recently, O’Brien’s Clueless Gamer bit welcomed skateboarding legend Tony Hawk and world-renown rapper Lil Wayne to play Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5, which was quite comical to say the least. Bearing that in mind, the segment’s prior cameos could be an indication that the host has plans to involve other celebrity guests in the preview, especially with Conan teasing tonight’s Fallout 4 piece as being “very special”. If anything, we’ll surely get a glimpse at the game’s character creation system that will be used to render a fun, cartoonish caricature of the host. And maybe we’ll be shown comparison shots of Conan’s likeness to the series’ mascot, Vault Boy, since both of their swooping haircuts are somewhat similar to one another.
With Fallout 4 being featured on Clueless Gamer, it’s important to note the high possibility of Bethesda footing the bill for the segment. As it happens, it’s been reported in the past that the company behind the survival-horror title Outlast paid $35,000 to have the game “reviewed” on the show, with different developers and publishers having done the same thing for other titles.
While it hasn’t been confirmed if Bethesda paid TBS for its post-apocalyptic RPG to get airtime, it would make sense. After all, Clueless Gamer is a comedy-based routine on the surface, but at its core beats the heart of product placement. Even so, both parties are wildly popular as independent entities—particularly Bethesda’s game, as our review roundup shows universal acclaim for the title—so what airs this evening ought to be entertaining nonetheless.
Fallout 4 is set to release tomorrow on November 10, 2015 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, while Conan‘s Clueless Gamer segment featuring the game airs tonight at 10:00 PM CT on TBS.
