Perhaps 2020’s biggest surprise success, the family friendly battle royale Fall Guys may be expanding its incredibly large audience sometime soon. If a recent datamine is to be believed, plans have been made to bring Fall Guys over to the Nintendo Switch.

Fall Guys developer Mediatonic may be focusing on a bit more than funny Yellow Team memes, at least if as a recent post from Twitter user OatmealDome is to be believed. Within the game’s code on Steam, Fall Guys contains a file titled NintendoSDKPlugin.dll. This file is used to support the Nintendo Switch's SDK, and its existence provides an obvious hint as to where fans may get to play the game in the future.

OatmealDome goes on to describe that, while this does not guarantee a Switch port, the game has the coding in place to support a release on the Nintendo platform. Beyond that, this file has been in the game since launch, showing that Mediatonic has had Switch support prepared for some time. If the port does come, it is likely a fair bit away, likely arriving during or after the game's second season of content.

It is hard to believe that a Nintendo Switch release would not happen, and not just because of this file’s existence. Fall Guys has seen an incredible amount of success, joining the long list of incredibly popular battle royale games to release over the past few years. The developers' clever interactions with the community, such as secretly rewarding the best Fall Guys player, show that Mediatonic has a clear vision for how to keep fans entertained.

As a breath of fresh air in the battle royale genre, and with a free release for PlayStation Plus players, Fall Guys has blown up to be far larger than the developers expected. It only makes sense to grow the games player base even larger, and a Switch release would go a long way to doing just that. If a Switch release does come, it will be interesting to see if an Xbox version follows. It seems increasingly likely that the game will eventually be playable on every platform, with next-gen versions of the game being a shoe-in. If that happens, Fall Guys' upcoming crossplay feature will be even better.

Fall Guys is a success story that nobody expected, with 10 publishers even turning it down before Mediatonic eventually found a publishing partner. The game is a perfect balance between fun and frustrating, and with the Fall Guys team embracing the title’s popularity so well, the game is sure to be played for years to come.

Fall Guys is out now for PC and PS4.
