The first full Nintendo Direct in some time included plenty of exciting news for Nintendo fans. The extensive presentation details Nintendo's plans for the first half of the year, including the announcement that Pyra and Mythra from Xenoblade Chronicles 2 will feature in Smash Ultimate. While there are a number of announcements for new releases and upcoming projects, one of 2020's biggest hits, Fall Guys, is finally on its way to Switch.
Fall Guys hit at just the right time as a fun, accessible platformer battle royale game that is silly and competitive. The game has exploded in popularity since its release in August last year, with over 11 million copies of Fall Guys sold on PC by December. The game was featured as a free download on PlayStation Plus for the PS4, but hasn't made the leap to other consoles yet.
Announced during the Direct, Fall Guys will soon be available for Nintendo Switch, coming to the system this summer. No specific date has been announced yet, but given the developer Mediatonic has been supporting the game with consistent updates showing off new stages and character skins for players to use, there should be plenty of content available when the game is released for the Switch.
With Fall Guys' unprecedented success, it is somewhat of a surprise that the game has not been immediately ported over to every platform under the sun. It takes time to port a game, and it is likely that both Mediatonic and publisher Devolver Digital didn't anticipate Fall Guys to be this red hot of a property. There have been rumors circulating that Fall Guys would feature on Xbox Game Pass, but after a tweet appeared indicating as much, it was quickly deleted, and no news has surfaced since.
Since Fall Guys launched and became largely popular, it has included a significant amount of crossover events and collaborations. One of the most recent leaks suggests that a Fortnite/Fall Guys crossover event is in the works, though nothing has been confirmed. A Sonic the Hedgehog skin was added to the mix in Fall Guys not long ago, as well as a skin of popular Twitch streamer Ninja. For the launch on Nintendo Switch, one has to wonder if there will be Nintendo character skins featured at some point. This summer, fans will find out for sure when Fall Guys drops on Switch.
Fall Guys is available now for PC and PS4, and will release on Nintendo Switch summer 2021.
