The Fall 2022 anime season is filled with interesting shows ranging from exciting new titles like Chainsaw Man & Eminence in the Shadow to returning fan favorites like My Hero Academia & Bleach. It has arguably been the most anticipated season of 2022, and it's easy to see why since the season has a stacked lineup. There is something for everyone, and anime fans are spoiled for choice regarding what to watch.
Though it goes without saying that the arrival of a new season brings with it the emergence of new main characters. Many of these characters have interesting qualities that contribute greatly to how they are perceived. This list will focus on their strength and where they rank amongst their older, more established counterparts.
8 Loid Forger – Spy X Family Part 2
Codenamed "Twilight,” Loid is a spy well known for his competence and extreme devotion to his cause. He became a spy at the age of sixteen and since then has worked in both the Westalian military and Westalian Intelligence. He is also a skilled fighter who can adapt to a wide variety of situations due to his vast amount of experience.
He is extremely intelligent and usually factors that intelligence to make the most of his surroundings in combat. He has tremendous physical prowess and has only been overpowered in the anime by his assassin wife, Yor Forger. Furthermore, he has heightened senses and is highly skilled with a gun.
7 Saichi Sugimoto – Golden Kamuy Season 4
Saichi Sugimoto, often revered as “The immortal Sugimoto” is a skilled war veteran who survived and contributed greatly to the anime’s rendition of the Battle of 203 Hill. His standout quality is his seemingly immortal body which has survived fatal attacks and quickly recovered from gruesome wounds. He has managed to survive being shot in the neck, stabbed in the face, and attacked by bears.
On many occasions, he doesn’t simply survive but also retains enough strength to go on the offensive despite his injuries. As a result, he carries the title of Sugimoto the Immortal. Sugimoto is also familiar with some forms of martial arts and skilled in the use of military tactics and weapons.
6 Cid Kagenou – Eminence In The Shadow
Reincarnated into another world with the presence of magic and other fantasy elements, Cid Kagenou is obsessed with becoming a character who orchestrates events from the shadows. He prefers to adopt a weak stance amidst others so he can stand out as little as possible, but in reality, he is one of the strongest characters in the series.
Even before his reincarnation, Cid was a high school student strong enough to overpower biker gangs all by himself. However, in his new world filled with magic, he broadened his horizons and became skilled in many more aspects. For example, he is able to use strengthening, healing, and defensive magic with great skill, while also possessing a signature technique that rivals the force of a nuclear explosion.
5 Izuku Midoriya – My Hero Academia 6th Season
Fans of My Hero Academia will undoubtedly be excited for the return of their beloved series and its main protagonist, Izuku Midoriya. He has gained a lot of experience over the past seasons and has grown incomparably stronger than he was at the beginning of the series.
His quirk doesn’t simply augment his physical capabilities anymore but also grants him a new set of powers belonging to the previous holders of One For All. His current quirks include Gearshift, Fa Jin, Danger Sense, Blackwhip, Smokescreen, and Float, all of which, when combined with his enhanced strength, make him a force to be reckoned with.
4 Al Wayne – I've Somehow Gotten Stronger When I Improved My Farm-Related Skills
Originating from an anime with a rather lengthy title, Al Wayne was formerly a simple farmer determined to perfect his craft. However, after maxing out his level, he gained abilities he never imagined he'd be capable of.
The show is set in a world with a game-like feature that shows individuals their acquired skills and stats through a summonable interface. Al’s stats are extremely high and have been reflected in his most high-profile feats. For example, he was able to destroy a dragon by throwing a regular carrot at it. On another occasion, he defeated a being stated to be as powerful as a demon lord with one punch.
3 Denji – Chainsaw Man
Chainsaw Man is one of the most anticipated shows of the 2022 fall season, as it has garnered interest from millions of people worldwide. It’s set in a world where devils exist and are strengthened by the fear different beings hold for certain objects or concepts.
After making a deal with the Chainsaw Devil, Denji gained the ability to manifest chainsaws from different parts of his body, becoming the titular Chainsaw Man. In this form, he is not only a massive threat to humans but also to devils due to his enhanced strength. Furthermore, he has astounding amounts of endurance, making him seem nearly unkillable, and he can use his chainsaws in various ways. Over the course of the series, he assumes multiple forms and defeats some extremely powerful devils, making him one of the strongest in the story.
2 Ichigo Kurosaki – Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War
After the heavily anticipated return of the Bleach anime, Kurosaki Ichigo is back with modern visuals as the show sports some stunning, flashy animation. He returns with the beloved cast of characters that have accompanied him on his journey so far, ready to face the new trials that await them.
Throughout the series, Ichigo has already displayed immense levels of power and defeated some powerful foes. He overwhelmed Ulquiorra Cifer in his Vasto Lorde form and, more impressively, defeated Aizen, a man who previously simultaneously overcame multiple members of the Gotei 13. His signature technique, Getsuga Tenshou, has many variations and, in its most powerful form, is able to deal significant damage to almost anyone he comes across.
1 Shigeo Kageyama – Mob Psycho 100 III
Shigeo is not just one of the most powerful espers in the Mob Psycho 100 series but also one of the most powerful in the entire medium of anime. Even with the third season's release, there have barely been any psychics featured in the show capable of challenging Shigeo.
His psychic powers largely involve telekinesis, but over the course of the series, he has learned to perform many other skills as well. His emotional state significantly influences his abilities, and when his instability reaches a certain threshold, he becomes a walking catastrophe. On one occasion, he was able to lift multiple skyscrapers and converge each one into a massive ball, while controlling them with ease. Additionally, in his strongest form, he can cause natural disasters just by walking and has been shown to be nigh-invincible.
