Updates from Koei Tecmo regarding the in-development Fairy Tail RPG continue to be shared month to month. Recently, Koei Tecmo shared details about the game's length - approximately 30 hours - and guild progression but now the studio has revealed 5 more playable characters and the game's Japanese release date. Fairy Tail  could release worldwide on March 19, 2020, but will definitely be available in Japan on that release date.

In addition to Fairy Tail's release date, 5 additional Fairy Tail favorites are being added to the RPG's roster. The new characters for Fairy Tail's story include "Sky God Slayer" Sherria Blendy from Lamia Scale, "Strongest Fencer" Kagura Mikazuchu from Mermaid heel, "Handsome" Ichiya Vandalay Kotobuki of Blue Pegasus, "White Dragon" Sting Eucliffe, and "Shadow Dragon" Rogue Cheney of Sabertooth.

The new 5 characters join an already great roster of Fairy Tail favorites, bringing the current total up to 12. The first character confirmations were for the most familiar Fairy Tail guild faces of the manga and anime, in Natsu, Erza, Lucy, Wendy, and Gray. Confirmed later were two more characters, Juvia and Gajeel. With 12 characters on the roster, some might expect that that's all. Apparently not, as Koei Tecmo has confirmed that Fairy Tail will have more than 12 playable characters.

Today's announcement also had some information about Fairy Tail's different editions and pre-order bonuses. There will be both a standard edition and a limited Guild Box edition of Fairy Tail. The Guild Box will include an illustrated cloth poster, a Weekly Sorcerer special issue of the Manga, three character cards, and a sticker set. Pre-order holders will also get an exclusive costume for Erza.

Fairy Tail may not be as popular in the west as Naruto, Dragon Ball Z, or even One Piece, but it's unquestionably one of the most popular mangas and anime in Japan. Having a big, fun RPG available worldwide can do a lot for the brand. Despite officially ending in 2017, Fairy Tail remains very popular, which explains the big RPG from Koei Tecmo.

Fairy Tail releases March 19, 2020 on Nintendo Switch, PC, and PS4.
