'Fairy Tail' Game is Going Social

Fairy Tale Moblie Game Square Enix

Square Enix has announced that they are going to develop a Fairy Tail social game for mobile phones. This might not be what fans expected from a Fairy Tail game, but it actually may turn out to be a good idea.

Fairy Tail, for those who don't know, is a very popular anime and manga series that has been making waves not only in Japan, but also here in the States. It follows the exploits of Lucy, Natsu, Gray, Erza and the other members of the Fairy Tail guild, one of the most notorious and powerful magic guilds.

Designed to be played on cell phones, Fairy Tail gives players control of a wizard who must defeat any enemies that stand in his path. What type of social game would this be if players weren't allowed to team up with their fellow wizard friends? Fear not, because you will be able to team up with your friends to exchange items and take on the bosses in the game. There will be over 80 cards hidden throughout the game that will be used to battle enemies.

Fairy Tail has been announced for the Mobage Town service. If you think you may have heard of that before, then you are definitely right. Mobage Town already has similar games, like Persona 3 Social, and recently announced that Shenmue Town will soon be released.

I believe a Fairy Tail social game could prove to be a very creative and innovative product, but it would be wise to reserve judgement until a few more details are released. A great feature to have in the game would be the choice to join one of the guilds from the series, or -- even better -- the ability the start your own guild. Wizards in Fairy Tail have some pretty flashy "spells," making them available to players would be another awesome feature.

Fairy Tail will be free-to-play, but don't get too excited just yet. Similar to some other games that are free-to-play, items will be sold through a micro-transaction model. A release has not yet been announced for the game.

What are your thoughts on a Fairy Tail social game? Could it be that gamers are more excited for the other new game that Square Enix announced this year? Feel free to let us know with your comments below!
