Like most long-running anime, though, Fairy Tail does have its fair share of filler episodes, 63 to be precise. From quirky misadventures to deep explorations of a character's backstory, this anime shows that not all episodes need to be filled with action, and can still be entertaining and worth watching.

10 Natsu Eats A Village (Episode 9)

This entry is the first filler episode in Fairy Tail. Natsu and Happy are well-known for their tremendous appetite, which becomes a key theme throughout the series. While traveling home with hungry bellies, the Fairy Tail team encounters a seemingly-abandoned village and some odd mushrooms. Eating these hilariously causes big toadstools to sprout on the consumer's head.

While investigating the village further, Erza discovers that not everything is as it seems, as the houses become monsters! Desperate times call for desperate measures. The group decides these monsters will become their next meal, only to find out that they're completely inedible. One final phrase can be heard at the end of this episode: "We're still hungry!"

9 Natsu Vs. Gray!! (Episode 70)

Tensions between Gray and Natsu finally come to a head in this episode. Through detailed animations, Natsu’s Fire Dragon Slayer powers and Gray’s Ice Maker abilities shine through. Gray betrays his allies for Daphne and intends to capture Natsu to absorb his powers for an artificial dragon.

This episode also has Erza and Lucy tackle some Lizardmen that can mimic their opponents' magic, however, they both manage to outsmart their enemies using their own abilities and quick wit. This episode ends on a cliffhanger, as Natsu is captured by Daphne as a power source for her Dragonoid.

This flashback episode is in the Fairy Tail Zero ark and shows Mavis going out to explore oceans. It has some classic Fairy Tail mischief as it shows they had a habit of destroying things before they even officially became a guild.

Mavis discovers an underwater temple in the hopes of finding treasure to fund Yuri and Warrod and prove she's not a burden. They prove that the power of friendship always has the power to save them, and they all return from their deep-sea dive with golden goods to profit from.

This episode is one of the first in the 'Key To The Starry Sky' filler arc. The episode begins with Natsu and Happy snooping through Lucy's novel-in-progress about an invisible man. Later while bathing, Lucy uses an expired magical ointment and ironically also becomes invisible, with the emphasis to become "clean and clear."

Loads of hilarious escapades and pranks ensue as Lucy has to sneak through town undetected and - naked - to seek help from her fellow guild mates before her very existence fades away.

5 Changeling (Episode 19)

They discover that not only have they swapped bodies, but they have also swapped magic as well. Lucy drools ice while Happy can only equip a swimsuit instead of Erza’s mystical armor. Another downside to this spell is there is a 30-minute time limit; if it isn't reversed in time, they would be stuck like that forever! It's Team Shadow Gear and Levy to the rescue, but can they fix everyone in time?

4 Wendy’s First Big Job?! (Episode 74)

Fairy Tail is a great anime that spreads the focus to some of its supporting characters and gives them some love. In this episode, Wendy wants to feel important and useful to the guild by doing her first big job alone, much to Carla's dismay. Despite Wendy's wish for independence, members of Fairy Tail decide to follow Wendy on her journey to ensure her safety.

This episode shows off Wendy's Sky Dragon powers as she blows away a Cursed Sandstorm, and proves her overall strength as a side character.

While at the ball, they discover that Velveno has the power to copy anyone's magic and abilities as the Fairy Tail crew are ineffective against him! They discover that Velveno is no threat though, as he only wanted to steal the ring to ask for Aceto's hand in marriage.

Laxus absorbs the electrical energy field to prevent it from blowing up and destroying the town. This episode fully shows why Laxus' is deserving of the title of a Fairy Tail S-Class Mage with these epic animations.
